Halloween is here, and I’m making tiny firefighter coats (or “birebighter” coats) out of pleather — ugh, plastic leather, sticky and gross, but with a ballpoint needle and a long stitch it isn’t too bad. And a walking foot. Next up: a spy coat. I’ve found nada for trench coat patterns for children (or adults, really). So it’ll be a black cowboy duster coat and a lapel pin that says “i am a spy” (this method works great for ambigous costumes — last year, big one was a guinea pig. Do you know how much a guinea pig costume looks like a bear costume? (it was a bear costume) But with a handy button on the front, saying “i am a guinea pig”, adults were able to recover nicely. “What a cute be…ahh ….guinea pig.”
