Thank you so much for your well wishes :) I’ve started to clean up my sewing room, so that’s a good sign. I applaud you for your interest and obvious talent in an art form commonly reserved for women. Your wife is a lucky one! ~Hillary

in my country, men rarely sew as their hobbies. :) great. BTW, i like your plaid pleated skirt with yoke, it inspires me to make myself one, if you don’t mind. :)

Hello again DKOCSIS45! Just wanted to say “THANKS” for the kind comment you left on the dress for my niece, Strawberry Dreams Forever! I really enjoy sewing for my niece’s and nephews and it is such a joy to see them love the creations I make for them! Thank goodness for little ones!

Yeah, I’ve noticed too that jersey is a favourite on here… I’ve never worked with jersey except for altering ready-to-wear, but it’s a great fabric for it’s own use. But for starters, using wovens forces you to figure out fitting, which is important.
As soon as you have a good sloper, you can really go wild with designs! Get a good book on drafting patterns, and you can make ANYTHING.
My candystripe skirt has been paused until I finish my last exam in June. When I tried it on, it was too much 18th-century peasant, and I just bought a lot of new fabrics that are more exciting. But it will be good for lazy summer days, I think. Looking forward to see the Easter dress!

No, I am not fluent in Russian at all, but hope to be someday. I’m mostly self-taught by Internet, because it’s not easy to find lessons in Norway. I wish I had learned more languages as a child, because after 18 it’s a LOT more difficult to get fluent. When I get children, I will definitely speak at least four or five languages around them, and keep literature in all kinds of languages around, just so they get exposed to it as soon as possible. We definitively live in a multicultural world, so they better get used to it. Then I suppose they can choose a couple of languages to specialize in when they’re seven or something. Like, at least I’ll make them learn Cyrillic and Arabic scripture, and some basic phrases in German, French, Italian… Poor children. Hope for your children’s sake that you’re not equally ambitious for them?
Scandinavians are mostly tall, blonde and light-skinned, in case you wondered. We were Hitler’s favourite race. Not a big honour, really.
Your wife is beautiful! Does she sew, too? And how did you get into it?

My incurable 50’s obsession – it came mostly because it fits my body and my old-fashioned lifestyle. The Russian interest came because it’s a beautiful (and quirky) language, and I love all things beautiful. I was born and raised in Norway, with 100% Norwegian parents. Why? :P

Спасибо! It’s so cute that you sew for your wife. We seem to share an interest for both the Russian language and historical clothing!
