hey! the coffee date dress was the first thing i ever made so i shortened in a not-so-perfect way. i literally just sewed on the “skirt” to the bodice where i wanted…but i had to take in the back by adding two dart-like things to make it have some shape. i think if i did it over, i probably wouldn’t change the bodice darts, they seem to work well where they are. my sizing skills are still not so hot, so i’d say just make a muslin first so that you can fool around with the fit. sorry i’m not of more help!!!! but good luck!
