You should try the period garment. It’s not that hard. The stays/corset are the hardest part, but the petticoats and the jacket were really easy compared to modern formals. Though my costume is definitely “undress” in that time period. I’d love to try draping a gown but I’d either need a buddy or a dress form. Duct tape double might happen some day… Good luck if you try the costume. I’d be glad to help!
