Hei! :)

oh, you had asked about my wife, she sews, but very little. It’s something she doesn’t really do much. She is more artistic. She enjoys drawing and writing poetry. I started sewing for something to do. I had bought her a sewing machine when our first child was about to be born. She just never made anything with it, so when she was visiting her parents for a month, I got out the machine and self taught myself how to thread it and work with a few different types of material. I made her a dress. It wasnt that great, but it was ok for a first attempt. The pattern was made a little wrong for her body type so it didn’t fit very well. I just kept trying and trying and now am trying to actually sit back down and do a little more with it. Time has just been filled with so many things I have to get done that I never finished her Easter dress. It’s about 80% done, and I’m sure it will be lovely when it’s finished… maybe by this summer. how is your candy-stripe skirt coming along?

Thank you Miss Constance! I love your dresses also! Burda provides a box where I put the pattern name in but I didn’t realize that it does not post them! I used a pattern by Simplicity 3535. SUPER EASY. Unlike your creations that look very sophisticated! How is Norway? Jeg levde i Norge siden mange år, så vakker. Jeg husker meget mange ord ikke ! I love your country, your very lucky to live there!

Thank you for the kind comment on my wife. yes, she is a pretty woman. And yes “poor kids” is right!!! wow, 4 to 5 languages!!! :) well, we will see when you get to that point ;) yes, thank you for the description of the Scandinavian. I do appreciate that. It does help me to understand better. As for my wife, no, she doesn’t sew. She does a little, but not very interested in it. Her mother is a seamstress from a young age. She does a lovely job, makes her own patterns and has made me some patterns for Irina as well. She drafted a bodice sloper for Irina, and I’ve been experimenting with it, making a few dresses, a few tops, modifying and making a princess seam dress, etc. Just muslin so far, and one jersey dress. Jersey came out ok, but I need to do a little work to the neckline before I can post it. Jersey seems to be a favorite of many on here, but I think I need to work with it a little more.

You definitely look European, but I’m not as familiar with how Norwegians, Finnish and Swedish look, so I wasn’t quite sure if your family had possibly moved there from Russia or the Ukraine. Your English is excellent, by the way and yes, the more I learn of Russian, the more I understand the beauty of it! I was just curious if you spoke Russian as a first language. My children do, but the eldest is losing it by going to the public school system here. We are going to try and change that by teaching him at home with a bi-lingual curriculum. I would like for him to speak spanish, russian and english. Those are pretty much everything they would need for living here. Do you speak Russian fluently? Mine is awful. I started to study about 13 years ago when I first met some Russians, and I never got too far with my learning. I do know some and try to learn more when I can. And now, being married to a Russian, her mother only speaks Russian so the kiddies need to keep speaking it so they can talk with their grandmother. I hope you don’t mind me asking questions.

so, where were you born that you have such an incurable obsession with 50s style, a fantastic ability to sew vintage clothing and a healthy interest in the Русский язык? Were you born in Norway or did you/family immigrate at some time?

I just want to tell you I really like your avatar picture, because Snufkin (as he’s called in English, I believe) is one of my favourite characters. :-)
