I happened to come across and see your status updated to "looking for a job… and surprised! So am I! I’m now applying for companies in fashion industry and waiting to be called for an interview… I wonder how it will go. Of course, not that I get to sew stuff there (I work in finance), but you know, it’s just nice to be in a company that handles clothes and other fashion goods! I was thinking of getting a new sewing machine… but will have to wait till my financials are secured :( Good luck for your job search, too!

Thanks for your message Kana! Good luck with the interviews as well. I wasn’t happy at my job anyway and the redundancy package is quiet good as i happened to find out. Now I am learning web development. With html5 and css3 making coding slightly easier why not expending your fashion skills toward that direction as well? XX

Hi! Ah, that would have been SO nice, but I haven’t yet been able to make any plans to visit Paris. Are you there right now? The exhibition looks super interesting, when I saw pictures from it I couldn’t believe how old the garments are, they look completely contemporary and rather timeless. I put is as my status-line both as a note to self and as a tip to all friends who might be in Paris, but I will try to arrange a visit, I hope I manage. I went to England last weekend, mainly around Farnham (south west of London) where a friend of mine lives. It was so nice, I love the English countryside… (as well as the French, of course). Hope you’ve visited the exhibition and enjoyed it!

What???? Not staying on our (UK) shores for the wedding day? :)
I went to the exhibition yesterday between two trains. I wish I had more time as the exhibition is absolutely amazing. I liked the way it is curated, mixed together with Bourdelle’s statues. You’d love it! The Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A last month was so disapointing in comparison. And you are right she was quiet a visionary. Nice of you for dropping a few lines! Keep well!

Heh he. Nope, had to go home, but I would have liked to stay! Would have stayed away from the crowds though, we had a royal wedding in Stockholm last summer and the city was jam packed with people, I stayed at home and watched all the nice dresses on TV instead :-).
Oh… you’ve made me want to go even more… too bad you only had time for a brief visit (I tend to do that as well). I’ll let you know if I do manage to get there!

I resent the fact that I had to come back in the UK to work today and tomorrow…and being stuck in the middle of the whole thing…yuuurk :) I passed by Buckingham palace this morning-my usual cycling route- it already looked manic.
Yep make sure you have enough time for the exhibition. I made the mistake to think that the catalogue will compensate for the lack of time: I found it didn’t reproduce the experience of actually being there. But for now I have to plan something for Friday. I think I’ll ‘live’ better the minute the wedding dress will be revealed then I move on….one thing’s for sure it is not a Galliano!

Hi! I’ve been waiting since your version of the Marilyn trousers was first posted to attempt to recreate your version. I’m finally ready, but have a question: How important are the drape-drape instructions to making these? I have very little proper draping experience, but can usually figure out complex patterns. Any advice you have would be much appreciated!

Hello there! Well I didn’t follow drape drape instructions since I don’t understand Japanese :) so you will figure out the pattern easily. I find the visual explainations very clear. I understand sketches better than texts anyway. So have go! (better on muslim though) and let me know!!

I love your Julio Cortázar quote. One of the best Latin American writers and, along with Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most underrated. Everybody goes ‘oh-ahhh’ over García Márquez.

I agree!! I find Cortazar humour very distinctive. A bit similar to Georges Perec’s. Amongst the Latin American writers, I also love ‘The Invention of Morel’ by Bioy Casares… a great book! Everyone goes ‘oh ahh’ about Marques but that’s not really my case!

Borges has a story where Cáceres is a character, along with Borges of course. ‘Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius’, if I am not mistaken.

Hello Helene, thank you for your comment on my trousers! I wanted to ask you a favor…you live in London, don’t you? I’m going to London next weekend and will have all of Monday for fabric shopping. In Dublin the farbic shopping situation is pretty bad, so I’m hoping that London will prove to be better. Could you give me any recommendations on what fabric shops to go to? Just simple, fun, fabric-filled shops, where the fabric is not so pricey. Any recommendations at all would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

If you are looking at Formula1 hotels they are really off centered so you have to bear in mind the trip to central London. There is one Holiday Inn in Lambeth North closed to the Imperial War museum. It is not far from where I live. It looks a bit grubby but I bet it is extortionate. In the worst case scenario, your future son in law may have some tips? I mean, I am French and I would avoid any hotel in the UK unless I’d be ****ing loaded. Just a thought. X

Hello – this request has nothing to do with sewing, but I’m hoping you might be able to help me. My daughter is getting married, in England, in May. They are actually getting married on the Isle of Wight, but she and her fiance live in London. My husband and I are looking for someplace relatively inexpensive to stay for 4-5 days before the wedding so we can help them with the last minute “stuff”. I had something lined up, but it fell through. Might you have any suggestions? We are Canadian and really have no idea of what is available in London!

    Thank you! Maureen (a.k.a. Sewingqueen)

Hum… London doesn’t rhyme with cheap, you must be already aware of this. Best to check online hotel chains such as Formula 1, Hotel Ibis, Holiday Inn etc…
Or look up for potential deals on lastminute.com?
Sorry for not being more help. I actually would never stay in a hotel in London and would go for Youth hostels (you might also try this option). Good luck!

      Best wishes

That would be great, I’d love to meet up with you! I don’t have anyone to go with so far as well. I’m not totally sure yet how free I’ll be on that day, but I would like to go through the exhibition again beforehand if I can make it. Hello Helene, late congratulations to your feature and happy new year! Tell me about feeling stuck in London. Or London is stuck inside of you. Everytime I go away I see that there are lots of ideas and opportunities in a lot of other interesting places, it’s just not so to maintain that impulse from somewhere else here and not let it go under. Isn’t London where it’s at, after all… But anyway – ‘current climate’ – forget it – I don’t see why not Rotterdam for a while, sounds great there.

    Heya carottesauvage!

Félecitations encore pour votre entrevue a Burdastyle’s Featured Member! J’aime tous votre projets beaucoup! :-)

I was wondering about the sailor-style jeans you were wearing in your Gravity Rules project photos (http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/gravity-rules), you said that they were a “stone-washed” denim, and I was wondering if you bought the denim fabric that way or if you added the faded, stone-washed features yourself? I live in a small town in British Columbia, Canada and it is very hard to find nice denim fabric, but I couldn’t even find stonewashed denim at fabric stores in Vancouver! If it is possible to re-create those faded features myself, that would be fantastic.

Merci beaucoup beaucoup! J’espère que vous avez une bonne annee avec plusiers projets! :) A bientot! Caramia

I’m so ignorant! When you mentioned rating, I had to check on my project to know what you mean. I don’t understand what’s the use of that rating system. I mean, what will happen if we get low or high rating? It won’t affect anything anyway. Burdastyle shoud just take it off.

What will happen? low rate=a computer virus will spread, high rate=you are on tv next. :).Now you know!:) Everything on the internet now is about rating consumeristic experience (Amazon, Ebay): rate your enjoyment between 1 and 5. Maybe in the future individual will be rated like this and it will show on their passport…

hello carotte! I found that the third issue of Pattern Magic from Nakamichi Tomoko was released some days ago. I know you would love to have a copy, and I happen to go to London in early December. Would you like me to bring it for you? I’m staying with my friend in Letchworth Garden City (err..
