Hi Cantare! Thank you for your kind comment on my dress! I remember the time when I saw your ‘Childrens Woolen Country wear’ project. I had never saw anything from you and I didn’t know something about you. That jacked catched my eyes once and twice… and I was asking myself what it was. Today I know what it was. ;-)

Hi Cantare,
I had a peek through your projects, you have a lovely style.
What are your tips for cutting chiffon and very fne fabric? Do you use a rotary cutter? I till can’t get it perfect , even if I spend ages lining up the selveges, even pulling a thread through to make sure it’s 100% lined up. It just tends to distort.
Thanks

Thank you! Hmm…chiffon. Honestly I find myself falling for all these lovely fabrics and then put them aside for a year or more because it drapes nicely but I can’t get myself to sew them. I think it’s main pet peeve it being cut straight! Using those zig-zag sheers really helps as it catches the fabric as you cut. It might also be worth it to cut one full piece in one layer. Instead of cutting a cut ‘on the fold’ as a pattern asks, doing just as much work to make a full piece might make a straighter hem? I’ll try it. I have some fine chiffon to cut soon and I’ll let you know. Send me a line when you try it as well. We’ll find what works best!

Will do.
I have about 10 pieces of chiffon.
I’ve made a couple of things already.
I found that if I have to back the chiffon I cut out the pattern piece in cotton voile (less slippy then bemsilk), iron the piece flat and put the chiffon ontop of the voile, pin it then cut roughly around leaving a bout 1 – 1.5cms extra. Then baste it.
I leave the rough cut edge on.
It worked really well on a top I am making.. except I stuffed up the chiffon for the bottom.
From now on I might just use to cheap polly cotton and use that as the pattern piece so it doesnt slip around. Worth wasting some cheap fabric so you don’t wreck expensive stuff.

The backing is a good idea! And trial to find errors is also smart. I also like to buy dresses that have that lovely already made chiffon skirt so I can take it and put it on my project :) manufacturers usually have the better tools for those itty-bitty rolled hems.

wow what a compliment! thank you so much, its very kind of you. I have not had any classes or school etc so my projects are a little random and mismatch and the techniques probably not professional, but its all good practice :-)

Hehe! There you go, i deleted the comment that you ‘lightening bolted’.
Yes, I’m learning a lot from people on this site! I still go back to my mum though. She has been sewing since as far back as I can remember and she’s AWESOME! :)

Hi, I love your designs – they are great! :) I remember Megan telling me about her sister being a designer and today, when going through all the bridal designs on burdastyle I recognized the picture of your bridesmaids-dress (the one in black and red) and when having a look at it in detail I recognized, that there is Megan on the picture as well. :) But anyway, I adore your projects. :) Please say hi to Megan – we got to know in Russia and my real name is Agnes. Hope, you and your sister are fine! :)
