I recently purchased Burda pattern 145 Girl’s dress and have a few questions. I am new to Burda Style and am only a novice sewer but I usually pick up patterns and instructions quickly. Firstly, the pattern pieces are numbered 21- 28, yet there is a number 29 piece. The 29 piece has “centre back zipper straight grain” written on it. Also, the 24 piece has “centre back” on it but it is not included in the instructions or overall pattern layout view. Any idea what these pieces are for and how I use them?? There is no reference to them in the instructions. I am a little disappointed in Burda – these patterns are not clearly labelled with piece names or how many pieces to cut; the symbols are confusing or do not exist (such as no “place on the fold” symbol and no fabric grain arrow) and I find the instructions not very clear. I would think twice about purchasing another, which is a shame as Burda has some great styles and they are reasonably priced. hope you can shed some light on my issues as I really want to make this dress for my daughter’s first communion. Thank you!

Some of our patterns will share a PDF with another pattern. If there are pieces on the PDF that are not mentioned in the Instructions, you can just ignore the pieces.

Dear Burda Style Support, we would be really honoured if you take the time to fix all the bugs. Unfortunately it’s a little bit annoying. Several members did ask for support and it would help us if we know that you are working on those problems. Thank you!

HI. Have you noticed that ‘activity’ is not working correctly? ( I think it may also be preventing people from posting their projects) ie. if someone makes a comment on a posted project, it is not showing up in that persons activity feed. This has been occurring for a least a week. Thanks

There is a problem at your site for logging in and purchasing archive webinars. I hope the emails I’m receiving with offers regarding these webinars are from you and not from somebody who is offering your services without your knowledge. I’ve had already that kind of experience with another sites and services. I hope it is only a technical problems. Thank you !

I purchased the Burda Summer 2014 magazine and as I was looking through the patterns I noticed some are only available in PDF. My questions is why do I have to pay for a PDF pattern when I already purchased the magazine with all of the patterns inside?

Is there a code I can use to download the patterns from the Burda Summer 2014 magazine?

    Thank you, Alejandra

In the spring issue of BurdaStyle US magazine (and in all of the BurdaStyle US magazines going forward), we will include 20 patterns as full-size inserts. The remaining patterns are available as paid digital downloads.

We include fleshed-out instructions to every single pattern that is featured in the magazine, but only ones indicated as a “pattern insert” are available on the pattern insert pages. You will know which patterns are available as a pattern insert in a number of ways:

On the fashion spread, the garment will be labeled with “pattern insert”.
On the “All styles at a glance” page (in this spring issue, that’s page 63), the garment will be labeled with “pattern insert”.
On the garment’s instruction page, the garment will be labeled “pattern available on insert sheet”.

Hi, I have been a burdastyle.com member for a long time. I had downloaded many of the free patterns over the years. Just recently my computer’s hard drive crashed and I lost all the downloaded patterns. I would imagine that you probably have some way to access my history and information. Would it be at all possible to get these files back somehow? Janet T jaytea

Ok, trying again, My daughter and I are making a dress from the April’s Burda Style magazine (Romantic Maxi Dress #121) and we when we went to cut out the pattern were shocked to discover that the pattern pieces did not match the pattern layout pieces and only had marking for the Tulle Wedding Gown #122. Our problem was that the indication of how to attach the skirt pieces were not on the pattern pieces and we have done it by fitting them by ourselves. My question is ,since I have been using Burda patterns for over 35 years, I was certain that when we sent our questions in they would be answered but we are still waiting, will an answer ever be coming to the questions my daughter sent in? (We actually do not need them, but I would like to know in case I ever need an answer again). Thanks in advance.

Hi, I just bought my first pattern and had a few questions. I purchased Pencil Skirt with Zip Fly 02/2014 #109. I have it printed and assembled, but there is no waistband piece. Am I supposed to make my own? Also what sizes do the different markings represent?

      Hello Above Rubies
I cannot address the need for a waist band on the pencil skirt (I looked at it online but I could not find it in my collection of Burda Style magazines so I could not see the pattern pieces nor the explanation under the section Cutting out where it usually tells you if you need to make a pieces, like I had to in my project (all the skirt pieces and sleeves were not included but instructions for their size and how to make there were included under cutting out)
Having made many Burda Style magazine patterns, I can tell you what the size marking mean. Each line with a different hashing mark is a different size
      Your pattern comes in sizes 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44
The 34 is US pattern size 8 (waist 24+, and hips 34 inches), etc. (see Burda sizing chart associated with your pattern). The main trick is to remember that the seam allowances are not included in Burda patterns, you must add them before you cut. I usually use a 5/8 of an inch seam allowance.
In the magazine there is a key to the symbols and useful instructions on the first page of the pattern pieces.
      Hope this is helpful.

You will also have the opportunity to email the presenter any follow-up questions you might have after watching the recording.

What does it mean when the pattern “does not include seam allowances”? Do I have to add an allowance before cutting or is the allowance included but not marked / shown?

Before you cut the pieces out you should add seam allowance if it is not already included in the pattern (burda style magazine patterns require you to add your own).

Hello, I have been trying to sew Paneled Shift Dress #117 and I got stuck with trying to sew together front side panels with the front. How does one sew around the corners of the panel so that fabric does not wrinkle. I tried several times, but the fabric just would not lay flat on the corners. Thank you! M.

In the spring issue of BurdaStyle US magazine (and in all of the BurdaStyle US magazines going forward), we will continue to include 20 patterns as full-size inserts.

On the garment’s instruction page, the garment will be labeled “pattern available on insert sheet”.
