Hi! I would like to enter the summer sewing competition, however I am a plus size woman (size 16) and I can not seem to find the particular patterns that i am looking for in my size. Can you suggest anything or help with? Where I live, they do not seem to carry Burda patterns. I would like to order soon so that I make the deadline for the competition. These are the patterns: (stretch drawstring shorts#121A(5/2010), leather shorts#112(12/2011), wool shorts#111A(10/2010), shirt dress#116(4/2010), shirt dress#111(5/2010), oversized shirt dress#105(2010), and button down top#103(6/2012). Thanks for your help.

Hi Deonnej, I apologize for not getting back with you in a more timely manner. In our pattern store you are able to filter your search by size, which is quite helpful. Unfortunately, not all patterns come in every size. Here is a link to all plus size women’s patterns: http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns?difficulty=&pattern_size=3/ Stay tuned for upcoming fall contests!

I apologize for not getting back with you in a more timely manner. Here is a great tutorial series on grading a pattern to fit: http://blog.caseybrowndesigns.com/2012/06/pattern-grading-101-part-one/

Emmy, I have a 39 inch bust, 42 inch hips, my waist measurement is usually anywhere from 31-33/34 inches, based on US measurements i am generally a size 10/12 (i have never been a size 6 at any point in my life.) and by your charts a 39.5 inch bust is a size 44 I’ve made several of your free pants patterns and the last time i cut the size 40 i still had to take it in a lot at the hips and even more at the waist. The blouses have just been complete disasters. And the last time i checked and inch was an inch and i doubt i’ve been measuring myself wrong all these years since i’ve made other clothes that fit using the same measurements
Apr 18, 2012, 01.57 AMby burdastyle
Hello again,
I am really sorry to hear that the clothes you made didn’t fit. Were you for sure using BurdStyle or Burda Style Magazine patterns?
Of course, it is rare that a person is a perfect Burda fit and most people need to do some alterations to any pattern, but what you are describing shouldn’t happen.
We actually only have one free pattern for pants on the site, the Ellen pants (http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/ellen). Were these the pants you made?
If you happen to be using free patterns from the site that were created by members and not by BurdaStyle or Burda Style Magazine, then the size chart is not applicable.
Please send us an e-mail at answers@burdastyle.com with a list of the patterns you have used that you feel fit this poorly and we will check them.
Best,
Emmy

I really wish burdastyle would put the finished measurements of the garments or review your size categories because the range my measurements fall in is still too big. Based on your size charts i am a size 44, anything i make in 44 is WAY TOO BIG. I eventually found out that the 38 is what i should actually be cutting…. It is for this reason I refused to buy patterns. I really think you guys need to look into this
Apr 17, 2012, 01.33 PMby burdastyle
Hello Goldilox,
I am sorry to hear that you have problems with the size chart.
I myself used my own measurements and compared to the BurdaStyle size chart and got the size I normally buy in a store, 38, I have since made several garments in size 38 and they have been a good fit. The difference between 38 and 44 (6 to 12 if you use us. sizes), is huge, are you sure you were comparing your measurements correctly to the size chart? Perhaps the style of garment you were making were supposed to have a loose fit?
We are glad you have found your size and we are sorry that it was difficult in doing so.
Best,
Emmy

Hello, How long does it take for prizes to be sent to contest winners, especially international ones. I won a prize in December; it’s now March. I have only heard from Coats and Clarks once to confirm my details and they have yet to responded to my other queries

Hi goldilox,
I’m sorry about this, and will follow-up with this issue for you. I am going to send you an e-mal now.

Thanks for the response about galloon lace, David. Unfortunately, I don’t think Britex carries the same lace that’s used in the pattern I want to make http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/102011-dress-with-galloon-lace-detail. Do you have any other suggestions?
Feb 22, 2012, 12.02 AMby mynameisdavid
Hi tuesdayrobinson,
You can also try M&J Trimmings
Unfortunately, I am unsure of where exactly the lace in the image was found.

Hi! Where can I purchase galloon lace like the lace used on this dress? http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/102011-dress-with-galloon-lace-detail
It’s gorgeous, and I really want to make it! Thanks!
Jan 23, 2012, 05.37 PMby mynameisdavid
Hi tuesdayrobinson,
You can find some of the lace at the Britex Fabrics online store: http://www.britexfabrics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=galloon+lace

Hello, Have a look at my ‘Sculptured Dress’. I modified an existing vintage 60s pattern but others could do the same to BURDA 7602. Also looks great done to coat patterns, you end up with great ‘bucket pockets’. Have a look at my (rough) video tutorials on You Tube at ‘Stitchless TV’ or go to my website www.stitchless.co.uk Thankyou, Tree

Hi I just have a question about the Grading a Bodice for Step 2 if you can please clarify??
If each section is 1/4 and 1/2 of the grading, which the grading is 8cm, then wouldnt 1/4 of each section be 2cm? If so 4 × 2cm = 8cm plus the 1/2 ef section which is 4cm so that would equal 12cm??
Nov 14, 2011, 04.05 PMby burdastyle
Hi Chelle,
Can you send me the link of the tutorial or project you are referring to?
Thank you,
David

There appears to be several people (including myself) who tried to enter the Halloween costume competition, and for some reason, were not put on the slide show. We got our projects posted in time and followed the rules, but our projects are not in the line up. This is very frustrating and sad for those of us who worked so hard on our costumes, followed the directions, and made the deadline. Please correct this if you can!

Hi littlejay,
I apologize for this oversight on our part. Your projects have now been added to the slideshow. Please let us know if we have missed anything by e-mailing Answers[at]BurdaStyle[dot]com.
Thank you,

Hello , please can you help me with a pattern …?
Its the velvet cropped jacket #130 www.burdastyle.com/patterns/112010-cropped-velvet-jacket
What part does peice 9 connect too? This is holding me back .. So please help
Sep 15, 2011, 03.05 PMby mynameisdavid
Hi Claire,
Piece 9 is the front facing, which I believe connects to Piece 1 (the center front). It corresponds with Step 7, which says to “Lay facings at front section seams down again. Stitch remainder of section seams, up to inside edges of facing.”
If you have further questions, please visit http://Support.BurdaStyle.com.

I just noticed that you’ve begun to remove insulting comments about your models bodies (f.ex. on swimsuit shoots), THANK YOU! It makes me so sad to read the insulting and insensitive comments some people write, not because I’m unhappy with my own body but because I know that women of all sizes sadly tend to have body-issues. So I’m really glad to not have to read them any more, great! I also really appreciated a team-comment on one of the projects about Burdastyle being size positive, meaning positive of ALL sizes, very girl-empowering imho, keep it up!
Aug 15, 2011, 02.55 PMby rachelnyc
Hey ichigogirl,
Thanks for your positive feedback. We try to moderate all comments, we too find it sad to read insulting comments! We try to be very conservative in comment removal – we only remove comments if the content breaks the Terms of Use on the site.
As always, we count on thoughtful members like you to help us moderate by reporting comments as inappropriate. Thanks for noticing!

Hi Dory,
Thanks for your suggestion! We aren’t producing any more patterns at the moment, but we’ll consider perhaps providing a tutorial.

why do you give a stage,as featured project,to a person who might have copied an idea and present herself as the original maker? i mean the white dress with Origami folding like a kite.this is the prsise dress the original artist had created, but the copier dosen’t say she copied his work. you should be carefull on how you pick your featured projects…

I recieved the recent email about the Amy S sweater. I must say it is divine. I also asked a question on the forum about where that sweater material came from, but then I noticed that the pattern was 2 years old. Also, so any suggestions where to obtain the purl knit fabric would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello! I have problems with downloading Helena skirt pattern. I click “get it”, then “Print Pattern at Home” but download dialogue doesn’t pop up, instead I get just a blank page and downloading doesn’t start. Here’s the screen capture: http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o305/chickachickadee/helena.jpg Same with instructions. I really want to sew this skirt. Any idea what the problem may be and what can be done about it? Thanks in advance, Alice.
