Hi Auntchelle, Thanks for your nice comment on my basket wave blazer. I have to admit I usually buy very cheap fabrics. We have several fabric stores in Belgrade (the city I live in), that sell fabrics per kilogram. They are imported from Italy and are much cheaper than fabrics in other stores. The key thing is to find the quality fabric among the rubbish stuff. And, I have a huge fabrics stash so I usually don’t buy a fabric for the pattern, but match the fabrics I have with the pattern I like. Best, Ana

Hey fellow Heaps cool SA I can’t buy fabric here in Tumby Bay, unless I want to quilt so I had to stock pile at Spotlight when I was living near one! Lucky it was a new store and I could find things easily! I was at one stage going weekly so I have a ready supply. I have also found the OP shop to be quite fruitfull and that way I don’t ever see it on other people! I hope you are not suffering in the heat too much!

Auntchelle, You stated in the forum an interest in a couple of U.S. magazine so here is my opinion. I subscribe to the Threads magazine and have for years. This is a very informative magazine and walks you through techniques etc. It gives pattern reviews on all different companies, as well as giving fabric tips and so forth. I really enjoy reading them from cover to cover. Now the Sew Stylish magazine is nice and I have bought it few times but don’t think I would subscribe to it. It seems more arts and crafts to me. It has projects in it as well as instructions for those projects but no regular size patterns. If a pattern is included for the project it is usually on a small graph picture that you have to enlarge. It still has some fun, quick crafty type projects if that is what you’re looking for. The name of the magazine is kind of deceptive, “Sew Stylish” you would think fashion. Hope this helps,by the way check your messages.

Hi Auntchelle, thanks for your compliment on my Bellissima jacket. I also noticed your post on the “Australian fabric stores – particularly online” post in the forum. Adelaide is fairly limited as far as the amount of stores to buy from but there are some good ones if you’re willing to travel and don’t want the really cheap rubbish that’s found in Lincraft and Spotlight. Have a look at: - Catwalk Fabrics – Coglin Street Brompton - Glynburn Fabrics – Glynburn Road Firle (specialising in evening fabrics they had some amazing fabric that was $1000 per meter one time I was there!!!!). there are also some other stores around that area but they’re not so spectacular. - Ferrier Fabrics – Fullarton Road - The Needleworks – Marion Road and another location but I can’t remember where. - DK fabrics – Port Road (opposite entertainment centre) is a massive place with so much stuff it can be overwhelming. I often find exactly what I’m looking for there. Another little known treasure (and also where I picked up the fabric for Bellissima jacket) is Gaye Naffine, an Adelaide based designer. Gaye sells her remnants when she completes a seasonal collection. If you call her office (under Gaye Naffine in the phone book) you can be put on a mailing list and they let you know when it’s on. They usually hold it in a community hall just off Fullarton Road so you could go to Ferrier’s at the same time. Occasionally Miss Gladys Sim Choon (Rundle Street) sell the remnants from their designers for absolutely NIX! I have purchased some amazing knits and laces for $5 per piece for lengths of 2m or so. I haven’t been to one of these for a while, but you could call and see if they still do them. There is also a bridal house somewhere in kent town that sells evening fabrics but the name slips my mind right now. If I want something really, really special, try d’italia. They’re a Melbourne store but if you email them a photo of what you are making with some ideas of the type and colour of fabric you want, they’ll send you some samples for free. Their stuff is italian and designer so the minimum price is usually around $50 per metre. Their website is: http://www.ditalia.com.au/ I hope this info helps you out and you find more inspiring fabrics from my suggestions. Regards and happy shopping Kerri

Hello Auntchelle, thank you so much for the nice comment on my red leg-of-mutton and polkadot Kasia. The colour combo does remind me a bit of Minnie Mouse :)

Hi there Auntchelle! Thanks for your nice comment on my gingham frock. If you’re looking for cute plus-size patterns you might try the Burda Plus mag that comes out twice a year if you haven’t seen it already- it’s much more fashiony than stuff I’ve seens from other pattern companies. Anyway I’m looking forward to seeing your creations :o)
