Invisible Zipper master! Congrats! Do tell how, inquiring minds want to know :) ???
Oct 12, 2011, 09.40 PMby ashchaser
My old Singer doesn’t have a zipper foot anymore, and I am too cheap, so use those generic plastic zipper feet you buy at Joann’s. They are usually such a ____ to do with these crappy feet, but finally one went perfectly and I was feeling like a zipper savant!
Oct 12, 2011, 10.15 PMby cur-jargon
Too funny and congrats! Savant indeed.

All day long I think of you You’re always on my mind I think of all you’ve ever said It seems like all the time
I can picture your smile When I’m feeling down That’s the time that I’d like most For you to always be around
But I know that’s not possible Because you’re somewhere new But I just wanted you to know That your friend always thinks of you

I just saw your status this morning and wondered the same thing when I bought that book. Isn’t it just so amazing and gorgeous? Love it!
Jun 24, 2010, 03.34 PMby ashchaser
Yes! Well I’ve been eyeing it on Amazon for a very long time, and found it in borders for about 4x’s the price…. I just sat down and read forever and kept taking pictures with my phone. I feel that learning alot of those techniques will really help me out, must have it!

Hey i like your tutorial on making hand-made labels. i will check out that etsy shop. Do you actually print on fabric and then sew onto the clothes. If so I will defo give it a try. Do you need to use washable ink?#
Thanks
Jun 18, 2010, 06.54 PMby ashchaser
Yes try to find some that is suitable for fabric- alot I have noticed will either just say “dont use on fabric” or they wont even mention it! I had to test mine out alot before I really started to use it, they actually let me print on a swatch and go home to wash it a few times( i was surprised). Also yes I print them all out on a big piece of muslin and then pink them before sewing them in. At one time I tried simply stamping on the garment fabric, but you couldn’t see it nearly as well. Thanks for reading!

Well done on attaining a store to stock your wonderful clothes. I’m trying to get some garments together and approach local boutiques here in Hobart TASMANIA, not a great deal in town and being so isolated from the mainland of Australia makes it harder to get established. Do you have any tips as I am a bit reluctant to approach stores purely because most owners take a huge commission from sales? Thanks.
Jun 18, 2010, 06.49 PMby ashchaser
When I did decide to approach these little boutiques I knew that I would not be making much money out of it, most of the ones I have contacted do a 70/30 split, yikes! As discouraging as that is, I do need to get my name out there more (since im horribly shy) so I just sucked it up and gathered 5 pieces to take to a shop that advertises alot around here. I know that I could make alot more if they were posted on Etsy, BUT I need to meet people and it has helped alot already! Otherwise my suggestions would be to make sure everything is finished neatly, to make a range of sizes, and labels of course!
Hopefully this will help a bit, I am still very new at this but would love to share with you. Good luck!

Hey – Just read the state of events. I’m embarrassed to say , I had no idea. We don’t have a television and the NPR coverage was light. Glad to hear your safe. Must seem somewhat surreal.
May 18, 2010, 06.59 PMby ashchaser
Don’t feel bad, most people didn’t know until the water levels were back to normal, and some are still surprised! I know this was absolutely nothing like what happened in New Orleans, but yes it has been devastating and quite surreal. Just yesterday I visited one of the harder hit neighborhoods again and there is just trash everywhere- all of the guts from a subdivision full of houses was all over the streets and the most horrible smell was unavoidable. We are doing well at getting back to normal, yet there is much to be done.

Let me know where we can send things and i will put this out on the blog! Would you like to write up a little something?
May 17, 2010, 12.45 AMby ashchaser
Sure I could write something for the blog, if it will help! Also I have been doing some research and so far have found that Knit and Crochet TN are curently accepting afghans, baby blankets and dishcloths for the many people affected. I know that not all members on the site may know how to knit or crochet, but it would really help if the ones that do could help out!

thank you! I was kinda surprised that I did, since it was very plain compared to my classmate’s. Yet due to the flood making me stranded and craftless, I’m just glad I’m still alive!
May 9, 2010, 10.45 PMby ladysophie
Yea it was plain, but simple is sometimes very beautiful! I understand your situation and I feel very sorry you didnt get to work hard on it. I would have wanted so much time to finish mine if I was doing it. And Im glad you are sitll alive too!

Thats good you’re in school! when i lived in california i was taking film production at the local community college where i was but towards the end i decided it wasn’t for me and that i should have been in the fashion design major instead. so i quit film right before the big project was due that i hadn’t even begun to edit so i sort of gave up. big mistake i realize now i should have just switched majors. now i am trying to pursue my passion of making clothes and also trying to reteach myself how to sew so its so frustrating sometimes. i love to do it and coming up with projects in my head is easiest part its just getting them under that needle thats the hardest. anyway you’ll love memphis, i’ve never been but my husband has been twice (big elvis fan, we call him the asian elvis haha) and he loves it there!

Congrats on your upcoming graduation. I live just North of Nashville. Where will you be graduating from? And glad you will be able to get back to your love of sewing! I miss my sewing machine too as I am working 6 days a week and there is NO time to sew and I miss it terribly. All that will change after the first of the year, going back to 3 days a week…woohoo! Happy Sewing Ash and congrats again!

Thank you! I went to MTSU for Apparel Design, and have no idea where to go from here. As for this x-mas week I will just be taking some much needed time resting my brain, and sewing for myself- but now I don’t even know what to make!
