It’s a bit tricky to sew buttonholes with an old machine, but with a little bit of practice the difficulty lessens :) I still can’t sew particularly nice buttonholes!
I have a really handy diagram explaining how to sew buttonholes in the original manual for my machine. I couldn’t find anything quite as good on the net, but this explanation is reasonable: http://www.wikihow.com/Sew-Buttonholes
Just ignore the bit about the buttonfoot. I also don’t use the seam ripper like they suggest: I have a little, very sharp chisel-like thing that slices the fabric. It’s much more accurate and I don’t need to worry so much about ripping the threads!
Hope this helps :)
