Hey Andy! I guess you can use any starch as long as you make sure it doesn’t live a mark. Try it on a leftover fabric and then spray the inside of the garment, then iron. I always use the Niagara starch spray, I don’t know if you can buy it in Australia, but I’m sure there is something similar. The purpose of the double face tape is to keep the garment close to your skin. You put it on the inside edge of the front decolletage and then stick it to the skin of your model, so there is no gaping. I’m sure you familiar with the famous green dress Jennifer Lopez once wore to the Oscars, that had a very deep decolletage and everyone was wondering how it stayed on. Well with the tape!!! Don’t be afraid of the iron, it only burns when you touch it:))) You have to get used to using it. It is as much important as the designing and sewing. Without proper ironing the garment never will have a finished look.Learn to iron every single seam while you sewing, so you have less work at the end. If you have any more question, don’t hesitate, I’ll be happy to help you if I can. Have a good evening!
