Hi :) yeah I’ve been seeing jackets looking very similar in stores everywhere, I would love to make a red one :) when I have the time… :( It seem’s like a project that would need a fair bit of time dedicated to it. Defiately try the Bella shorts, such an easy pattern to work with. It’s coming into winter now so I hope I’ll get a bit more wear out of them before it gets too cold :P I’m from Applecross :) I’ve seen quite a few people from Perth around the site. I wouldn’t have thought it because it’s a smallish city.

Hello Ami,
I was just wondering if you have started a sewing club? I am very interested to join one as I want to continue to sew while I am not working. I am a part time prop maker and make drapes for the film industry. I am looking to sharpen my knowledge and also don’t want my sewing hands to get rusty, I just find that I don’t like to sew alone. So if you do have one I would really like to join!Oct 30, 2009, 08.03 PMby sabzarap

AmiBambini, How’s your sewing club? I hope you are sewing away and having a great summer-fall transition. Here in the States, or at least in my parts, I feel like summer — that hot sweltering kind that makes you want to jump in the lake for quenching — never really came. But I gave all that up thinking of fall weekends and staying in and having more time for the business of stuff making. yours, amarie

Hi Ami,
I am loving the African wax print material – can’t believe the Obama one – that is fab.
I am also interested in a sewing club, though not sure what a sewing club really is… would love to get together and compare stuff with fellow sewers though!
If you do start one up I’d love to be included. Tina

Thanks for the comment Ami—I didn’t think it, but it does look like a Molly Ringwald-ish gettup!!!! I will rock that prom baby. I love your orange shorts, very cute!

oh how i wish i had the african print left! Like a fool i only bought a metre, and as i wanted to try the skirt again i went looking for more…but it was sold out :-( I got this one from ebay but do you know of any good places to buy african print fabric? Pref online as norwich is not exactly the centre of all things cultural – sigh. Any info much appreciated! x

Hello! I’ve just been so impressed with your creations and outfits. Don’t you think it’s time to drop the “novice” label and kick it up to “intermediate?” For example, those orange shorts you made look absolutely professionally done. Keep up the good work!

hi – thanks for you comment on my smock. i suppose that i should credit all the people putting up their baby jumper creations. it totally made me want one in my size. once I had the idea of a bib rather than a bodice, I kind of just winged the rest.

Hi and thanks for your comment. Four families from the school I teach at lost their houses in the fires but luckily they escaped (just!) How long have you been in GB? I can understand you missing the Australia summer!

Hi I love your quilt, I am working on one also. Its a lot of work isnt it? I was wondering when the quilt top is finished does it have to be quilted by hand also. You’ve done a great job on yours.

Hi aibby. Thanks for your kind comments. Yes it is a lot of work but I am doing it bit by bit here and there, if it takes me 5 years that’s ok. I love taking a small box of hexagons on the train with me and passing long journeys that way, or for half an hour before bed..
I don’t think there are any rules about having to hand quilt a hand pieced quilt. Right now I am sitting on quilt made by my grandma, it’s a hand-pieced hexagon but she’s definitely machine quilted it and it looks great. I think it comes down to the look and feel of the quilt that you want. Hand quilting takes time, but it has a beautiful feel to it. Maybe you could do a combination.. beautiful hand quilted details while machine zapping the rest.
Good luck with it! Post pictures soon!
Amy x
