  No, I didn’t enter the Vintage-Modern competition – though I did think about it! I was going to do the Sateen Blouse for the same reason as you – because I like the idea of taking a basic geometric plan and filling in your own dimensions – though after seeing the results people got from simply following the ‘slip-on jumper’ directions to the letter, I now suspect that a good deal of restyling would be needed to get anything as elegant as the picture :-(

  I have a length of vintage green fabric from the 1950s that my grandmother bought for a blouse or something and never used (it has a novelty print of tiny black elephants on it!) and have this pattern mentally marked down for it, as it looks like a way of using a fairly small piece of cloth economically. That would have been my entry if I had had time….

  But I am still working on my Vogue 5607 skirt skirt at the moment. I had hoped to have finished it earlier, but I have been doing a great deal of hand sewing on it (every seam thread-traced on both pieces of cloth, then tacked, then fitted, then re-tacked, then sewn, then hand-finished, then all that tacking thread pulled out piece by piece by piece – I just wish I got better results for all those ‘couture techniques’!) and progress is intermittent and extremely slow.

  Hallo Katja!

  Dein Blog ist nicht schlecht! ;-) Freut mich dass ich jetzt noch einen weiteren interessanten Link habe, um zu lesen. Für mich bist du als Näh-Bloggerin so eine Art Bindeglid zwischen den deutschen Bloggern und der englischspachigen Szene. - Ich glaub ich weiß genau was du meinst, vonwegen du bist nicht zufrieden mit deiner Ausführung besonders in Bezug auf die Verarbeitung mit dem Serger. Tatsächlich geht es mir gerade in der letzten Zeit so, dass ich bei allem was ich mache, immer nicht zufrieden bin und irgendwas ist immer nicht richtig und muss verbessert werden . Mittlerweile trage ich nur noch ‘Me-made’ Sachen … aber es nervt mich total, dass hier und da und dort was nicht stimmt.

  Meinst du wir können das noch abarbeiten und errreichen eines Tages einen höheren Level? Oder hört das nie auf? ;-)))

  I’ve missed what project was so poorly (and I’m sure wrongly) rated, yet do not even need to see it because I cannot agree more! Your entire studio is fantastic! There are always going to be garments and photos much nicer than my own, and of course I have my own designer jealousy, but it ALWAYS motivates me to push my skills father. Also will admit that my excitement for the contests here on Burda has really fallen due to these random members whom seem much more dazzled by simple photo filters and links from popular blogs than the actual time and effort put into the design process. My projects lose time and time again, yet it has always been the positive words from everyone else which keeps me sewing. Viva la ajtak7171!

Thank you so much! Yes, I will definitely not let thumbs-down-people influence my process… (though I might shy away from contests, we shall see…).   Yeah don’t let them bring you down….people who rate poorly have no clue about the time and energy spent. I wouldn’t jump on conclusions and suspect other competitors. The team will make their choice and i doubt they will take the rating system into consideration for the shortlist. The rating system is bitchiness embodied ( have you ever noticed that even the greatest projects never get 5 stars anyway?-thinking of minnieminks’ ‘La petite manchette’)and BS should scrape it off, really…And I join forces with Anajan and hand-quilter, you are talented!XX

    Thank you thank you thank you! You are the best. I am such an admirer of your work (the trilogy – amazing!!!) that your words really mean a lot. I have never liked this random rating system. Someone should either take the time to comment or just leave it alone I guess… I WILL NOT LET THEM GET TO ME, promise :-) This wasn’t about winning anyway, but it most certainly wasn’t about getting “thumbs down” either. Who needs that?!

    Oh thank you!!It is not about winning ( the prizes are relatively modest in the world of competitions)…But in my case, I was one of the first to complain about the fact that Project Runaway competition was reserved to US members…I try to stick to my principle (not that I am a model of virtue myself) and participate as the rest of the world was given the opportunity to do so! Complaining is one thing participating is another matter…and yes there is very little time to waste for those who complain (about everything on this site) and judge +never participate . They find the periphery a very comfortable place to watch,poke fun (all this via the rating system of course since it is anonymous) or only get attracted by an image (as Ashchaser noted above)

    Thank you… it really made me sad. This site is usually so positive, and all of a sudden I get such bad “vibes” from it. It makes me want to drop out of the contest. I won’t win, and I know that, but I certainly don’t need negativity!

    i second and third and fourth everyone here— and don’t you DARE drop out of the contest!!! your garment is so creative, and to be honest it has sparkle which i forgot to add in mine!!! as the site gets bigger the $@%^&! inevitably seeps in. just remember the awesome peeps here like the ladies above & below. (and, i heartily agree with carotte: the rating system blows. it’s just an easy no-brainer way to voice your speedy opinion in a very cowardly fashion.)

    Ha, talk about turning something negative into something really positive! Thank you all SO MUCH! This just really hit me in a bad spot at a bad time – I am working in a really competitive field where people bitch around ones back all the time. This sewing community has alway been a safe haven for me to turn to in my free time, full of support and constructive criticism, the thumbs-down just didn’t go down well… and oonaballoona- your dress is actually one of my absolute favorite one – I think my sparkle-and-shininess were too much and made it a bit tacky… see, that’s what I mean: I am not a sore loser at all! I like to learn through others successes! :-)

  Das gibt es doch gar nicht! Was hast du da schon wieder gemacht ?! Ich glaube ich falle bald auf die Knie vor dir! :-))) Das 20er Leinenkleid war schon Spitze… und dies hier ist genauso ein Hit. Jedesmal ein anderer Look und jedesmal wieder Klasse!

Der hat ja im Moment wirklich viel im Ausverkauf, aber der gestreifte Stoff würde mir eh nicht stehen, weil er zuviel weiß drin hat.   Jetzt, nach dem ‘Featuring’, hat das ganze Rätseln ein Ende und es passt alles ins Bild.

  Von allein wäre ich nicht auf deinen Vornamen gekommen, das muss ich ehrlich zugeben. Mein Name “immi.” ist ja gewissermaßen ein Palindrom aber es ist tatsächlich auch mein echter ‘Nickname’.

  Werde dich hier weiter beobachten! ;-) Deine Fortschritte beim nähen sind bemerkenswert und ich mag es auch, dass du in den Beschreibungen deinern Projekte jeweils schreibst was du dazugelernt hast.

Ha, und ich dachte mir, der Name sei eh klar :-) Wenn ich auf “activity” gehe, steht von Dir “Bzgl. des copyrights der Schnitte: Wir von “Elegant Impressions” sind zu dem Schluss gekommen das…”, aber wenn ich den ganzen Post an der “Wall” lesen will, ist “nur” der andere da – ich nehme an, Du hast ersteren wieder gelöscht – würde mich aber sehr interessieren, zu welchem Schluss ihr gekommen seid!
    Ich dachte mir, ich würde konsequenter sein mit den Angaben zum Gelernten für jedes Stück, aber manchmal ist das nachträglich schwer in Worte zu fassen, bzw. ich bin dann doch zu faul, alles auszuformulieren….

  I’m realy inspired by all your work! You can sew so beutiful! Two of my sisters are musicians too. My oldest sister just graduated and has formed a group, they play baroque music. I design their clothes for their concerts. And after that I had read your interview, I will certainly keep in mind that they can play comfortably:)

    Thank you so much Sarah! I wish you the best with all your sewing! While singers need ease around the ribs for breathing, instrumentalists usually need to be able to comfortably hold their arms up without being constricted by tight garment sleeves… think of which body parts need freedom (for example violinists: mainly the arms, especially the right one, and nothing that gets in the way on the neck etc) – if you consider all that, I’m sure you will make them very happy! It will be fun for you to see your clothes in action!

  HI ajtak7171. wegen der schnitte: ich glaube gelesen zu haben, dass eine relativ große zeitspanne vergangen sein muss (welche zahl genau, weiß ich nimma) bis das copyright erlischt.

  ist das sehr frech, wenn ich frage, ob du mir schnitte leihen würdest? ich stöber zwar hin und wieder auf ebay, aber so wirklich glück hatte ich noch nicht… im moment bin ich ziemlich verrückt nach den 50ern (hat lena hoschek ausgelöst hihi :-))

    Das finde ich überhaupt nicht frech, und ich hätte es auch schon vorher fast vorgeschlagen, da wir schon in der selben Stadt sind… Ich weiss ehrlich gesagt nicht, ob ich Dir die Hefte leihen würde, aber kopieren lassen auf jeden Fall! Das ist nicht böse gemeint, aber ich hänge so an ihnen… Ich will sie einfach bei mir behalten… Die Schnittmusterbögen sind allerdings ein furchtbares Chaos. Wenn Du einen Schnitt willst, den ich bereits herauskopiert und gemacht habe, könntest Du aber natürlich auch den haben…
    Wegen Copyright – ich glaube es müssten 80 Jahre vergangen sein, da kommen wir noch nicht ganz hin. Aber ich werde mich irgendwann mal schlau machen.

    Bzgl. des copyrights der Schnitte: Wir von “Elegant Impressions” sind zu dem Schluss gekommen dass es das Beste ist, alles selbst zu machen um 100%ig eventuellen Abmahnungen aus dem Weg zu gehen.

  hallo ajtak!!! nein, ich habs mail leider nicht bekommen :( die website is halt noch in den kinderschuhn, da kann nicht immer alles so super klappen. danke jedenfalls :-) wenns wärmer wird mach ich mich auf die suche nach dem 2. kleinen laden, den du beschrieben hast!! aber ich glaub die 2 kältesten wintermonate stehen uns noch bevor… brrrrrr.

  Hallo! :) Lese just deinen Kommentar, habe aber gerade nicht viel Zeit (bin auf der Arbeit). ;) Was heißt denn nun bloss wieder: “Signed up for a patter making class”?? Schnitterstellung… Kurse nehmen oder geben… oh mein Englisch ist soooo schlecht. :) Der Schnitt für das braune Kleid ist aus einer älteren Ausgabe de Fachzeitschrift: Rundschau für internationale Damenmode (MMüller & Sohn) Dein Kleid ist wunderschön – viel schöner als meins. ;) Liebe Grüße Irmi

    Das find ich aber gar nicht, dass meins schöner ist als Deins!!! Die Übersetzung wäre: “Habe mich gerade für ein Schnittzeichnen-Kurs angemeldet”, also ich NEHME den Kurs, an der Volkshochschule. Bin schon sehr gespannt. Schön wär’s, wenn ich so fortgeschritten wäre, dass ich den Kurs geben könnte, nähen ist “nur” Hobby… muss drum jetzt auch an die Arbeit :-)
