Hi,
Thank you so much for replying about the polycotton poplin! :D
I don’t know too much about fabrics, but now I know about poplin! Thankyou!

I usually use 100% cotton poplin. It comes in several weights and is very splendid when you can get the real thing. Poly/cotton poplin is also a good fabric. Used for blouses and summer dresses as well as lining bags. Not really strong enough to use for the outside of a bag, in my opinion. :)

Thanks for your reply to my leftie rotary cutter question. My sister bought one several years ago, but I don’t remember it being swappable. I will have to let her know. The Gingher was pretty pricey, but then what of Ginghers isn’t?

Hi Kate, I am considering buying the Readers Digest Complete Guide To Sewing, 1978 or 1981 version. I saw some comments on other sites where you said you bought this book. (At least, the user was also Kate with a lot of Xes :)) What do you think of it? Would you suggest this book to me? Are there specific parts of the book that are very good, are there parts that are lacking? Greetings from Luxembourg :)

You have a very nice collection. I did a search for “HanBok” but nothing came out. I didn’t know it was two word. They sure are beautiful. Thanks for your comments.

hallo Kate, I’ve seen your advice for sewing with elastic material and it helped me very much. Thank you very much.I hope you will help me if I have sewing questions . I ‘m not very good at speaking and writing in English, but I can understand everything. Here in Bulgaria we don’t have a site similar with this one and for that reason I"ve joined as a member here.I am also Burda magazine’s fan. So, have a nice weekend and thanks again.

Thank you so much, KateXXXXXX, for your extensive answer to my “sleeves” questions. You are a real sweetheart to take all that time and energy to write out such a detailed and informative answer. I feel doubly blessed, first as beneficiary from the BurdaStyle site, but also from your own very thoughtful input on a number of issues I’ve seen posted.

Hi Kate! You’ve been very helpful with your advice and I just read your sewing knit advice with foot types. I did use a walking foot, but then I hit the zipper. I used the zipper foot and now one side of my hoodie (a 2 way stretch cotton flannel) is longer than the other and I used a separating sports zipper down center front. =( Any ideas?

Hey Kate, you left me a comment on which sewing machine to get. To start out I wanted a basic sewing machine to learn from and I found the Singer 1940 at the thrift store. When I took it to my moms so she can make sure it was in good condition besides the obvious she then told me she had a Brother LS-1717. So right now I am torn because doing the research it said that the Singer is a good student sewing machine. So please help I have both I just need to choose between one. The Singer is in great condition and the Brother in practically new.
Thanks

Thank you for the idea. However it is wool fabric that is leftover and may not suit an assymetrical hemline. I shall keep looking . A friend had on a purchased skirt recently and that had the type of styling I thought of so I will probably ask her if I can draft a pattern from it. Thank you anyway.

Experiment! I’ve used all sorts of fabrics in asymmetrical hemlines. It’s otherwise gash fabric – definitely for playing with! ;)
