  Hi Josephina, So sorry I’ve taken so long to reply. These past few weeks have been just as crazy as the start of the school year. I haven’t been stopping long enough to post comments, just visiting Burdastyle to get a quick look at new projects — just long enough to get my BS “fix”.

  With regards to your question, I did the satin bound edging because I didn’t have an overlocker back then, and I think the satin is a nice finish, but it was very time-consuming. Two rows of stitching round the 18m of the bottom layer – the first to attach the binding, the second to stitch it down. It is a pretty finish though.

    Thanks for the response – there was no hurry – it was more out of interest in case I make more in future. I have however, located a source for ‘frayless’ nylon chiffon (aka 20 denier nylon) online at www.glitteranddance.com, courtesy of Kiraph. It may be worth looking at if you plan to make any more.

    Hi Becky
    The Martha Stewart link http://www.marthastewart.com/article/pettiskirts?video_id=0 shows a pettiskirt but the instructions are for a short tutu.
    I combined those instructions with these here http://www.iheartcraft.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=49 to make the pettiskirt for my daughter.

    I hope this helps – your granddaughter will just love it!

    PS. Forgot to mention that I made the skirt from organza because I couldn’t find any nylon chiffon, which I’ve since found is called 20 denier nylon here in Aus. The organza took a lot of edge finishing though so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a lot of time!

  Thanks for that link, I really appreciate it. At first when you were talking about nylon chiffon I was a bit confused because most of the chiffon that you buy in the shops probably is nylon or polyester, but when I took a look at the video I think I know what fabric they are referring to.

  We (here in Aussie land) call it by something like 20 denier nylon. It isn’t as floaty as normal chiffon, but it also doesn’t fray to all buggery either, so I think that is what they are talking about, and when gathered up alot it would be quite poofy. If you want an online source try www.glitteranddance.com and look under the non-stretch fabric section. Other than that, it should be fairly easy to come by in Spotlight.
