  Hi bussey, Thank you for the compliments, and thank you for reading and commenting my blog. Yup, you commented the Nora dress over there ;). I am very pleased with it, the night I wore it I got quite a lot compliments, it was a true eye-catcher! Now I’m inspired to make few more similar dresses with minor bodice variations.

    As a matter of fact, I am not an English teacher, I am a philosophy and history teacher. So, if sometimes you need to amuse yourself a bit when long sewing sessions make you nervous, you can always think of me struggling hopelessly with terms like “Weltanschauung” " Uneigentlichkeit" and so on… Some experts told me that Heidegger’s writings are easier in German than in most Italian translation.. sigh!

  Hi Bussey, thanks for the comment on my Origami dress. Keep sewing, the skills come with practice. Did you know I’ve started seriously drafting my own pattern just recently? I did draft a few patterns on my own in the past, but ever since I joined the BS, I’ve increased my knowledge enormously! And now I’m enjoying all the play and experimenting with patterns.

  nessuna modifica! ..però io ho la 34-36, quindi le taglie dei due cartamodelli erano le stesse! in effetti, le maniche non sono perfette: fanno un pò di difetto sulla spalla, forse andrebbero adattate in qualche modo..ma io non sono in grado di farlo! devo anche dire, per chiarezza, che il vestito è stato confezionato in 4/5 ore di lavoro (l’ho cominciato la mattina alle 10, dopo le ultime modifiche alla tesi, e l’ho finito il pomeriggio alle 16 perchè dovevo andare a lavorare! in mezzo… pranzo, pulizia casa, merenda, pause varie, cyclette…) insomma..poteva essere fatto meglio e con più calma!

  Hi Bussey! Thanks for writing on my wall and I wish you lots of luck with your high school exams! That’s an interesting question you pose, about how to make the dress with sleeves… there are several small alterations I think you’d need to make. Because the shoulders and armholes are cut to fit the body tighter than they would be on a garment with sleeves, you’d probably need to lengthen the shoulder outward a little, and probably raise it a bit as well. Then I would recommend that you edit the sides of the bodice so that the waist is the same, but that the bust is perhaps 1/4"-1/2" wider on either side, and then redraw the armholes so that they don’t cut in quite as much. Does that make sense? I’d find a pattern that has the kind of sleeves that you’re looking for, and try to use that as the basis for your sleeve, editing it and the armhole to fit. Another way to approach this would be to use the Bodice Sloper posted by JJ as the basis, because the armholes of that pattern are cut to accommodate sleeves. Then all you would need to do is adjust the neckline and shoulders to fit. Let me know if this makes sense— if not I’ll see if I can explain it better :) Good luck with sewing and exams!
