James Dean, the Fonz, Joan Jett…The classic motorcycle jacket just oozes ‘cool’. Here, we created a pattern for the ideal motorcycle jacket with all the essential details: asymmetrical center front with convertible lapel, zippered pockets, shoulder vents, tabs at the back waist, wrist zips…But then, instead of going down the tried-and-true road with black leather, we decided to give a twist to this classic with a luscious mustard wool. We can’t wait to see your interpretation!

Recommended Materials

Leather and faux leather can be tricky to sew, so perhaps try doing this jacket in wool, like we did. Silk lining, metal zippers, snaps, interfacing.

Amount of Fabrics

Self: 2 1/4 yards (2m 6cm)
Lining: 1 1/4 yards(1m 14cm)

Seam Allowance

This pattern includes seam allowance

Does anyone know how far down the waist it goes? Or do I need to alter the pattern and make it a bit longer?

Can someone please tell me if this pattern comes with instructions? I found a few, but since this is my first jacket I don’t really know where to start from, or if there’s any technique that I might need to know beforehand. Thank you!

Hi Kiki. My name is Muriel. I have pretty decent sewing experience and just decided to make this jacket for my daughter. (When I saw your question.). We’re you able to download the 6 pages of instructions that Burda provided? If you have specific questions, I may be able to help. That is if you haven’t given up on making this jacket, by now!

I don’t think that is a good design. :). But it’s pretty good.

Is this pattern easy to alter? I’m a guy with a 42in chest. I love this pattern but am worried it will be too small.
