I'm a New York gal who has lived in Brooklyn for the past 8 years. I studied theatre in college (also in NYC) and worked in the costume shop as part of my work study. I had made Halloween costumes once a year with my mother, but the costume shop is where I realized I really LOVED to sew, and loved the creativity of designing something. I have my grandfather's old Singer sewing machine (the story goes, that he bought the machine in the 50's or 60's, but they wouldn't give him the 'free lessons' because he was a man...he was always a bit gruff, and demanded them solely on principle). It's not too terribly functional, so I also received a Brother last Christmas. It's definitely gotten me back in the creative spirit. I so appreciate this site and all it has to offer. I truly enjoy looking at each new vision and am charmed by how generous, gracious, and humble each member seems to be.
