I'm a computer scientist living in Aachen, Germany. Originally from New York, I did my undergrad just outside of Philadelphia, and my Ph.D. in Atlanta and have also lived in Chicago and the Bay Area. My hobbies are dance, sewing, crochet, knitting, playing piano, learning languages, snuggling my cats, and baking. I love 1950s evening gowns and collect lots of them and patterns too. Overall, a pretty tame existence :)

Hi Elaine! Did you go to Swat, by any chance? I just started sewing clothes and randomly found your amazing creations on this site. Your coats are unbelievable. I'm totally inspired now...

hi elainemay! I've been trying to reach you but my message link has the "bug". That was one funny story, people can do such nasty things! It's good you didn't go to that place though, it is quite dangerous..well I hope you had a great time here in Manila :)

Thanks for the nice meassage you left me. :–) And I would also like to thank you for the How Tos you wrote – I'm sure I'll find them very helpful one day! I actually already tried the resizing one, but didn’t finish the thing, because the pattern was borrowed and I had to give it back… but I'll borrow it again one day. :–)

done one petticoat, working on next

Elainemay, I loved reading your featured member page. Your work is so inspiring. Always so stylish and so professionally finished and always looks awesome on you. Your coats make me wish I lived in a colder climate and not the tropics where we have about two days of winter each year!

Thanks for the compliment. Those dresses were my first completed project after a 5 year lull! I really dig your work. Especially love the blue velvet coat - the detail in the lining is impressive. :)

Hello! I'm following the instruction in your Featured Member interview. :-) I love all of your creations - they are always very precise, original and ellegant! And it also makes me think I might be able to achieve such level of my sewing skills, too, if I tried more...

Elainemay, I just read your feature-member post! You are truly inspiring. I like how you are so brave. I want to thank you also very much for you how to make a pattern smaller: I used it and work great!
