ABOUT BROCADEGODDESS

Well, I guess it's about time I put something in here. I'm a grad student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. (but I'm from Toronto, just here for school) My thesis is to do with 18th century fashionable women's clothing construction, and the role of women in 18th century English garment trades. I started really sewing at the end of highschool and quickly became addicted! It's totally taken over my life! My undergrad degree was in Visual Art (drawing, painting, photography) with a segwey into costume construction and design in my 2nd or 3rd year. I thought I wanted to be a costume designer, but eventually decided I didn't like it, I preferred 'real' old clothes instead! lol I worked in the bridal industry for a while both on the production and wholesale ends, and have done some fun contract work over the years. I also got to work in the Clothing & Textiles collection at the U here, and.....OMG....I could spend hours at a time in there! Now I TA the apparel design courses at the University here. I'm hoping to add more creations and participate in the how to's, but my time is mostly not my own these days, and I'm notoriously bad about getting photos of my stuff..bah! But if you're at all interested in historical dress, particularly the 18th century, drop me a line and let's chat! Or just say hi! :o)
