Viridias cute smocked shirt (9242 Views)

Here is a How to for a shirt with some pretty details that make it an eyecatcher without being too difficult. It is smocked in the front and on the sleeves. You need a pattern for a short sleeve shirt. You can take it from an old shirt or use for example the Lydia-pattern. I hope you can follow my instructions!

I took the pattern from an old shirt of mine. You can use any pattern for an short-sleeve-shirt, for example the Lydia-pattern. The diagram shows how to alter the pattern. The front piece is cut horizontal a few centimetres above your bust line. The pieces that are going to be smocked are made a bit wider (as the blue lines show). The smocked piece in the middle of the upper front has to be cut separately. There is also an additional facing for the upper front so that the elastic doesn’t scratch you. But you can leave that out if you want to.

This looks like a knit. Will it work on woven fabrics as well?

sewing a long summer skirt ;-)

The techniques I used for smocking work better with stretch material. But I think it could work with other fabrics as well if they are not too thick.

    flying high (on life. lol)

this is a cute idea, I think I will keep an eye out for tshirts next time I am at a thrift store that are a size or two too big for me, and then chop them and do something similar to this!
