Shortening Jeans With Darts (967 Views)

arts are the perfect solution when you need to lose length from the back leg of your jeans, but none from the front. Fast, simple and hardly visible! And no cutting needed. So… If I ever wanted to open the darts up again to add length, it is possible!

I use only one dart (sewn to hem) if I need to finetune the length about ½ inches (3cm) from the heel, but leave the front un-touched.

    Step 1 of 12

I needed to shorten these jeans only from the back leg, because the front was perfect. Also these pants had a beautiful worn detail in the heel, so normal cutting did not seem like a good idea. I decided to shorten these with DARTS.

Materials

Jeans, ruler and sewing equipment.

Oh wow! Thanks for this tutorial! My fave pair of jeans is loosing it's elasticity so the back is getting caught under my shoes. This is a perfect fix!

only one week left 'till I can sew.

This is a really handy tutorial...however, whenever I've accidentally gotten ballpoint pen on my pants it doesn't come out, even with stain removers!

Wow this is such a great how to. So many cute jeans have bottom details and I always hate the idea of cutting or folding to shorten them. Now I need to go through my closet and pull out all my long jeans. Thanks a lot this is a big help.

Quite interesting. The technique also appears in Simplicity's patterns of historical interest http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=section/civilWar/pants4.html
