Step 1 of 13
Rescue a sad and lonely piece of fabric from the thrift store. Pin the pattern (printed on recycled paper) onto your fabric and cut out.
-
Step 2 of 13
Be sure to draw all important markings onto your fabric. I like to use a contrasting thread instead. Serge/overlock each piece.
-
Step 3 of 13
First step is to sew the darts on the front pieces. Pin first and press then mark with tailors chalk and a ruler and sew. Press the dart downwards.
-
Step 4 of 13
Pin 2 front pieces right sides together and sew from the slit mark downwards. Unfold and press the seam open, including the unstitched part at the top.
-
Step 5 of 13
Pin the front piece to the back piece at the shoulder seams and sew. Press the seams open.
-
Step 6 of 13
Pin the bias binding to the neckline as shown in the picture and sew.
As my fabric is quite flimsy i decided to use a plain black pre-made binding i had in my stash.
-
Step 7 of 13
Clip the curves or the binding.
-
Step 8 of 13
Fold over the binding and press. Sew around and stitch the front edges in place.
At this point because i did not add an edging i stitched a 1/4 inch around the front opening to keep the facing in place.
-
Step 9 of 13
Pin side seams and sew. Open out and press.
-
Step 10 of 13
Take each sleeve and sew from dot symbol to dot symbol twice using a long stitch.
-
Step 11 of 13
Pin sleeves in place with right side facing right side of main piece. Matching up the seams and notches pull gathering threads to fit and pin in place. Sew around.
-
Step 12 of 13
Press seams towards the sleeves and turn right side out.
The fabric i used is lightweight and flimsy so instead or turning the hem and cuffs i gave them a rolled edge using my serger/overlocker. Also, as the opening at the front gaped open i added a button fastening to save my modesty! and I also wear a black singlet underneath.

Step 13 of 13
