  linen dress - my variation of Sidonie pattern

  Sorry, step3 and step4 have to be changed. Don't know how to do it without doing a complete new HowTo. ;-)

  Step 2 of 15

  Like you can see I extended the pattern (I havn't used a lining) with the top part which I rounded for the arm holes. I cutted the front and the back in fabric fold because I didn't want to use a zipper. I layed the pattern not directly on the fold but 2cm next to it, because I didn't know how wide the dress should be. I cutted the pieces with a very generous allowance.

  Please do step 4 before step 3!
  For the arm holes I cutted the allowance back to 1.5cm. I folded it two times and then I sew it.

  Step 4 of 15

  After having stitched (with needles) the two parts together I recognized that the top parts were much too wide. By trying the stitched dress on I changed the arm holes. You can see the white line on the fabric.

  Step 5 of 15

  After having sewn the 4 arm hole parts I sew the necklines (front and back) in the same way. Fold the neckline so that your satin band fits through it.

  Step 6 of 15

  I basted the side seams and tried the dress on to see how it fits. Then I stitched and serged the side seams.

  Step 7 of 15

  I folded the hem line two times and then I sewed it. If you like you can wear the dress like this.

  Step 8 of 15

  I wanted to have an elastic in the waistline. So I folded a satin band and sew it on the waistline (left side of fabric).

  Step 9 of 15

  I pulled an elastic through the "satin tunnel" and sewed the two ends together.

  Step 10 of 15

  Here you can see the shape of the pockets. (1: 27cm, 2: 14,5cm) You need 4 such parts. On two of these parts you have to sew two buttonholes (see mark 3).

  Step 11 of 15

  Position one part with buttonholes onto one part without buttonholes, right sides facing. Position two satin bands on the pocket like you can see on the picture (length of satin band: about 40cm each). Sew the parts together but be sure not to sew the whole pocket. You have to leave a few centimeters open to reverse the pockets (see mark on the picture).

  Trim the allowance and reverse the pockets.

  Step 13 of 15

  Sew along the satin bands but be sure not to sew over them!!!

  Step 14 of 15

  Stitch the pockets onto the dress. The open part of the pockets will be close through this.
