Sidonie to Scooter skirt (2824 Views)
How to convert the sidonie pattern to make a wrap skirt.

Step 1 of 7
Since this is a wrap skirt, we don't need a back seam. On your sidonie pattern, draw a line between the seam allowance dots on the center seam of the back pattern piece. Place this new line on the fold when cutting out the skirt back piece.
-
Step 2 of 7
Draw a line 4 to 6 inches away and parallel to the center front. My skirt (size 42) uses 6 inches, which I think ended up being a bit too wide.
-
Step 3 of 7
Using scrap paper, copy the area between the center line and the line you just drew and attach the piece at the front center line so that the extension piece is a mirror of the pattern piece. Cut out two of these front pieces, and mark the center line clearly on each piece.
-
Step 4 of 7
For the lining, you can either make identical pattern alterations to the front and back lining pattern to have a full lining, or you can just cut out the extension and the pattern up to the line (as in the picture) if you just want to line the front wrap area.
-
Step 5 of 7
First, sew the back darts and the side seams per the sidonie instructions (do the same for the lining if you are doing a full lining). At this point, using your measuring tape, measure the waist line of your skirt and extend the sidonie waistband pattern piece so that it is a couple of inches longer than the measured waist size (to be on the safe side) and cut out the waistband piece. Stitch the lining to the front edges of the skirt (right sides facing). Finish the seam allowances, turn the lining to the inside and press.
-
Step 6 of 7
Top stitch the front edges of the skirt (I also top stitched the side seams), and baste the lining to the skirt at the waist edge. Now attach the waistband following the sidonie instructions, and topstitch around the waistband.
-
Step 7 of 7
Add all button holes on the right front piece. Mine are spaced 5.5" inches apart vertically and I just made sure they are equidistant from the center line of the skirt front. I also added single welt pockets to the front to show off the contrast lining fabric. Now hem up the skirt, and you're done!

Wow! I like this variation! And I like what papers you're using for the pattern extension, great to see I'm not alone using whatever comes under my hand. :D
Love the variation. Thanks for sharing your idea and your clear instructions.
