Take a Screenshot on a Mac (1912 Views)

For some creations, patterns, and especially How Tos, it is good to know how to take a Screen Shot. On most Macs, there is an application that makes it super easy!

Open Applications in the Finder, then the Utilities folder, and choose the application called Grab.

When the Grab application is opened, it will only show as a bar at the top of your screen- no window will be open.
Step 3 of 4

Click on Capture, and you will see the different options of the types of screenshots you can take:

-Selection: Drag a box around the area you want to take a screenshot of

-Window: Choose an entire window to take a screenshot of

-Screen: Take a screenshot of everything that is on your monitor at that moment

-Timed Screen: Take a screenshot of everything on your monitor, after a 10 second delay, giving you time to make the screen active or changing

Once you have taken your screenshot, you can save it. These screenshots are saved as Tiff files. In order to upload these onto the BurdaStyle site, you’ll have to convert these to jpegs or gif files.

Alternately, you can press command+shift+3 for a screen shot. If you press command+shift+4 a crosshair will come up and you can crop any part of the screen. The file shows up on your desktop.
