In this how-to i am using scrap fabric and a contrasting thread so you can see where my stitches are. When you make your own pockets you will use a matching thread and your chosen fabric although i recommend you practice first on scrap fabric.

On your fabric mark your desired pocket measurement where you want it to be in chalk.

Materials

Sewing machine, chosen fabric, lining fabric, interfacing, thread

This is brilliant! thankyou, it's one of the things that I've been wanting to learn. will this same technique work for the bound buttonholes? (sans pocket part obviously!) I can't wait to try it out.

Yes, that's right minxdragon although there are many different ways to do bound buttonholes as there are a few other different ways for bound pockets too. I'll upload some how-to's when i can.

I was wondering why there were so many steps...now after trying it, I can see why. It is a perfect way to make a regular garment be different! I am even going to put these pockets on garments already finished.

This instruction is 100% helpful for me because the way i learnt it in sewing school was so difficult i have been making my tops without pockets. Thanks again. I will also be sharing the technique with my friend.
