Sew a zipper in the Talea coat (2816 Views)

  Step 1 of 17

  Lay your coat down and sign the middle on the left and right sides from the front (where the coat is closed by the zipper when you put it on).

  The sign for the right side must be in the inner side of the coat.

  The sign for the left side in front of the coat.

  Step 2 of 17

  Baste the zipper on your marked lines. It must be in the middle in front of your coat.

  BE CAREFUL on the right side! It is the side that you will see! So baste the zipper only on the inner side from the overlapping front part.

  Put your coat on and look if you have to make any alterations on it.

  Step 3 of 17

  Stitch the zipper on the left side.

  Step 4 of 17

  Stitch the zipper on the right side. BE SURE that you sew it only on the inner part!

  Step 5 of 17

  To hide the zipper:

  Cut two fabric stripes (for each part of the zipper) in the length of your zipper. DO NOT FORGET the seam allowances! I made mine 8 cm wide (including seam allowance), finished wide 2 cm (enough to hide my zipper).

  Fold the stripes in the middle. Press.

• 

  Step 7 of 17

  Open them.

• 

  Step 8 of 17

  Fold the sides in the middle. Press.

• 

  Step 9 of 17

  Fold them again. Press.

• 

  Step 10 of 17

  Open them and fold each end of the stripes inward. Press.

•

  Fold them again. Press.

• 

  Step 12 of 17

  Baste the stripes onto the zipper. Be sure that you DO NOT BLOCK the zipper. BE CAREFUL on the right side (the side you will see)!

  Step 13 of 17

  First stitch the side where the zipper will be closed.

• 

  Step 14 of 17

  Then stitch the other side.

  Do this on each part of the zipper.

• 

  Step 15 of 17

  Now the zipper is hiding. Then sure you will wear the coat not only closed, so it looks better this way.

• 

  Step 16 of 17

  Marked the points where you want the buttons. Stitch them. I’m made loops instead of button holes.

  (I put the coat on before I stitch, so I have the option to do alterations)
