Make French Bias Binding (8458 Views)French Bias Binding is similar to regular bias binding in appearance, but requires more fabric and starts on the fold. It is best used for binding sheer and lightweight fabrics- to cover raw edges or add a bit of sturdiness to armholes and necklines.

Great, thanks for this how to. Should be useful one day. Are the bias strips with the grain of the fabric or on the diagonal, like ordinary bias binding?
Thank you for this, it really looks very useful!
That's really useful! I've been putting off binding the inside raw edges on my silk blouse but I'm finally going to do it next week as I've got a long train + ferry journey to Dublin and I don't mind hand sewing when I'm a captive audience!
The strips should be cut on the bias, just like ordinary bias binding- just wider. Glad that its helpful!
By Right Side of the fabric, I mean the side of the garment that will face out when finished, or the correct side of the fabric, as opposed to the inside.
Oh, is that what I was doing! I did this when I made a jumper from a Kwik Sew pattern for a client. Hated the jumper, liked the binding. I'm making a maternity dress I'm going to do this to. But I'm just going to use commercial double wide bias binding, pressed in 1/2. The beauty of this is that it hides, so color's not crucial, and unlike old fashioned facings it doesn't accidentally come untucked & ugly
thanku! u explained it so clearly :)
