  You will need paper and a pencil. First measure where you want your ruffle to go. My skirt was 53cm across the back. You will make the circumference of your inner circle the same as this. I added 3 cm 'just in case'. To find the diameter of your inner circle divide the circumference by 3.14. You can see in my photo that i have drawn a sliced pizza shape and have marked each 'slice' 9cm.
  I don't have a compass big enough so i improvised by making my own as you can see in the photo.

  Step 2 of 7

  Add a 1.5cm seam allowance to the inside of your inner circle. Then decide how long you'd like to make your ruffle and add another 1.5cm seam allowance. Draw your outer circle and cut out. Cut a slit into the circle as shown in the photo.

  Cut out your ruffles. I cut 4 for my project.

  Step 4 of 7

  Stay stitch around the inner edge of your ruffle and snip the curve all the way across, this will allow the ruffle to be straightened out.

  I tidied up the edges of the ruffles by folding over twice and top stitching. Do this with the hem also although i left mine raw and just stay stitched them to limit fraying.

  Step 6 of 7

  Pin your ruffle to your garment and sew into place. I have sewn mine on the right side of my skirt and used a zig-zag stitch. If you want to sew your ruffle onto the hem then you should pin it right sides facing and sew in place.

  Work your way up adding ruffles at regular intervals, mine are every 2 1/2 inches.
