    NOT working! HA!

Great idea. I've been hesitant to create my own variations on patterns. The step by step is just what I needed to leap into the world of modification.
    THANK YOU

Julietta, Thanks for the excellent how-to! I cant wait to make a shirt like yours!!! I have my pattern all drafted but I have a couple of questions. I am confused on the placket. Is this a faux placket or a real one? Should seam allowances be added to the placket piece or on any of the other pieces (like the front bodice piece and the place where the top was separated from the bottom?) Then the big question and this may be obvious to others but how do I put this placket together? Are those buttons and button holes that are on the placket? Sorry for all the questions. I hope someone can help me.

Ok, after looking back through the instructions I see that the placket is a fake placket which answers some of my questions. I am still kind of curious about the seam allowances and how to put the placket together. This is how I imagine it...I apply interfacing to the placket piece (I am including 5/8 in seam allowance on the 3 cm placket) then with right sides together sew the right front piece to the placket and then do the same with the left front piece. Then after I have my top bodice piece together, I then start following the original pattern instruction for putting together the shoulders and applying facing to the neckline.????? Does this sound about right???

    Is moving

Thank you all for your nice comments!

    Laneandme: To your questions.

I had to add seam allowances to all the parts where I cut the original pattern apart. That would be to the side and bottom of the placket, the upper front piece where it gets sewn on the placket and the lower front piece, at the top of the lower front piece, at the bottom of the upper back pieces and at the top of the lower back pieces.

The placket is very simple. I did not even add interfacing on it, just one layer of fabric. There are also no buttonholes, I just sew on the buttons. Yes, you just follow then the original instructions and apply facing to the neckline.

I hope this answers all your questions, if not don't hesitate to ask. It's good that you are asking this because I'm sure that there are more who didn't understand it.

Thanx for the how to...very well explained & easy to do! I had problems "keeping" the gathers after i sewed the top & bottom together...i gathered (basting stich that i pulled),then overlocked & when i tried it on the gathers desapered!!! I guess i have to secure the gathers by sewing over them before i overlock? any tips?
