Measure and cut towels (if you aren't using store-bought towels). Towel measurements vary greatly, so you have plenty of flexibility here. To get one set (2 bath towels and 2 hand towels) out of 2 1/4 yard of 57" wide terry cloth, cut the two bath towels 31" wide from selvage to selvage, and the hand towels 19" wide. We incorporated the selvage into the hem of the bath towels.

Cut decorative fabric and interfacing the width of your towels. We made ours six inches high for both the hand towels and the bath towels, but in retrospect, if think I would make the bath towel's a little shorter, maybe 2 inches. Apply interfacing to wrong side of decorative fabric.

Use a contrasting piping or lace around the fabric insert and sew on towel all at once. Then, add same lace at bottom of towel. You'll get a professional look and beautiful set of towels
