Step 1 of 13
The changes I made to the pattern: eliminating the ties, add buttons with loop closures and add a facing to the center front seam.
Additional cutting from fabric: cut 2-2 x the length of the front center seam for front facing; cut an additional bias strip, or on the bias cut a piece 1 x 12 (Ill call that piece the loop bias). *Neck edge bias should be cut one inch longer to compensate for facing.
Additional supplies needed: lightweight fusible interfacing (cut 2-2x length of front center seam), 6 small shank buttons, a piece of string cut slightly longer than your additional bias strip (loop bias).
Button Loops: To be able to turn the button loop easily, tie a knot in one end of the string. Fold loop bias piece in half with right sides together. Place string inside fabric.
Stitch across string at the knotted end, then along the length of the fabric with a seam allowance. Be sure to keep your string out of your stitching.

Step 2 of 13
-
Step 3 of 13
Pull the string to turn piece right side out. (You may need to help the first inch of fabric over the string by hand; I like to use a tweezers to pull the fabric over itself.) Press.
-
Step 4 of 13
Cut 6 pieces that are 2 long.
-
Step 5 of 13
On the right side of the left front piece measure up front the seam marking. Pin your button loop to the center edge, matching unfinished edges. Space the button loops apart. Baste in place with a seam.
Repeat for the bottom of the center seam marking with the remaining loops.
-
Step 6 of 13
Facing: Fuse the interfacing to the facing pieces. Sew a zigzag stitch along the outside edge of the facing. With right sides facing pin the unfinished edge of the facing piece to the center front. Stitch with a seam allowance. Repeat for other front piece.
-
Step 7 of 13
Lay both front pieces together with right sides facing, matching markings.
-
Step 8 of 13
Open facing to reveal stitching. Sew along the stitching within markings for front center seam. Press.
-
Step 9 of 13
Neckline: Follow neck bias instructions as given except open the facing piece at the center seam and begin and end the bias piece into the facing pieces.
-
Step 10 of 13
After bias has been sewn and seams clipped, fold facing piece back, then top stitch in place.
-
Step 11 of 13
Bottom seam: As an alternate to finished seam given in the instructions, open center facing and measured and pressed a seam along bottom edge. Roll up another and press and fold facing back. Stitch

Step 12 of 13
Sew on your buttons and youre done!

In Germany we say: "A picture tells more than 1000 words", that´s what I thought when I saw that loop-pic. I made this several times, but its hard to explain. Your pictures 5 and 6 tells it all... :-9
Oh, and 1-4 shows how to make "rolls", and loops out of them. Your pictures are a perfect source to show the technique when we want to explain it to someone.
Thanks for the work
Thanks so much for such explicit directions. I just love your pattern changes.
Thanks for you Voila , This lesson has helped me a lot.
