Step 1 of 12
First of all, I have to say I owe this how-to to some who has requested it when I first uploaded the creation. I have struggled on finding a suitable knit and finally I've decided it's spring and I must find a way to post the tutorial. Anyway, here is it mixed with sketch.
Step1, cut 4 rectangles with length=bust top across and width=the side of the bust as shown on the picture. Remember it is knit so make it a little shorter than you would normally make it. You can use a camisole you own as a guide.
-
Step 2 of 12
now, sew the corresponding sides color coded for ease of undestanding
-
Step 3 of 12
and then you want to connect the sides of the now longer rectangles so that when you finish, so that it connects into one tube.
-
Step 4 of 12
that's what you should get, you can try it on to see if it fits
-
Step 5 of 12
now, this is just a little bit of math. if you had made a circle skirt, you will understand. Meausure your waist (at under bust because you want to connect to the tube top), that is "W". Now divide 6.28 by "W" and you get the radius.
Lastly, "C" will be the length you want for your dress
-
Step 6 of 12
once you get the mesurements, you want to fold and approximate size of the fabric (length=2C and width = 2C) as in picture, just fold and fold. Then use a compass or something that can draw circles and make the pink markings as in picture.
(make the black too if you want an even edge dress)
Cut. A tip is that try to make "r" a little bit shorter because if your knit stretches alot, the waist will certainly come out TOO big and will be hard to attach to the tube without ruching.
-
Step 7 of 12
Attach the square skirt to the tube and you get the main form for the dress top
-
Step 8 of 12
now for the sleeves, you want to measure the "strap length from front to back that you want. Draw something like that in the picture, adjusting that sleeve length you want.
-
Step 9 of 12
You want to finisht the edges of the sleeves by folding in a little, you can put in an elastic inside if you want more stability( I didn't).
-
Step 10 of 12
attach the two ends of the sleeves to your tube top and you are done!
-
Step 11 of 12
you can add stability strip to the back connecting the sleeves to prevent shoulder slip.
-
Step 12 of 12
If you want, you can add ribbon in the front. Yay, new spring dress top!
Good luck on your new projects!
