Make Box and Inverted Box Pleats! (15556 Views)

Box pleats are essentially two knife pleats sewn together, back to back. They have the same 4:2 ratio as box pleats (meaning 4" of fabric will result in a 2" finished pleat).

To make inverted box pleat, mark the above 5 points on the right side of your fabric, where you want to make a box pleat. Points 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are 1" (2.5 cm) apart. Point 5 is the center of the pleat. This is the standard ratio. Your box pleat intake can be as much or as little as you desire.

Perfectly intelligible and illustrative. As Milsakate said, very helpful for beginners. Thank you!

This is very helpful, and pics are great. However, it takes 6 in of fabric to make the 2 in pleat as you show. We have to count from zero, not one. In other words, you need to include the fabric that ends up on the top surface of your finished pleat. this is important to calculate yardage required.
