Step 1 of 24
Print out pattern onto recycled paper and cut out.
-
Step 2 of 24
I altered the main pattern piece to give some extra allowance in the waist for my growing pregnant belly.
-
Step 3 of 24
Pin your pattern pieces to the fabric and cut out.
-
Step 4 of 24
Overlock the edges of each piece.
-
Step 5 of 24
Pin and sew the top of the inserts to the main piece as shown.
-
Step 6 of 24
Sew a gathering stitch across the bottom part of the main piece where the insert will attach. Gather, pin and sew in place as shown.
-
Step 7 of 24
Fold main piece down the side of insert and sew in dart and down the insert.
-
Step 8 of 24
Do the same for the other side. Open up and press seams towards centre. This is what it should look like.
-
Step 9 of 24
Sew darts into top back pieces. Open out and press darts towards centre seam.
-
Step 10 of 24
Your back pieces will look like this.
-
Step 11 of 24
Sew back waistbands to the bottom of each back piece.
-
Step 12 of 24
Sew a gathering stitch across the top of each back skirt piece between the markings. Gather and sew onto the back waistband pieces.
-
Step 13 of 24
Top stitch top and bottom seam edges of waistband.
-
Step 14 of 24
Pin the back pieces right sides together. Sew seam from marking down to hem. Sew up from marking to neckline with a basting stitch. Open out and press seam open.
-
Step 15 of 24
Pin front to back at shoulder seams, right sides facing. Sew together, open out seams and press.
-
Step 16 of 24
Cut interfacing for the front and back neck facings. Iron on. Sew front facing to back facings as in picture. Open out and press seams.
-
Step 17 of 24
Sew facing to the main pice, right sides together. Clip curves, turn to inside and press. Top stisch around neck opening.
-
Step 18 of 24
Fold ties in half right sides together. Press and sew around. Clip corners, turn right sides out and press.
-
Step 19 of 24
Pin to main piece at waistline and sew in place.
-
Step 20 of 24
Sew a gathering stitch between dots on each sleeve. Pin edges together, sew, open out seams and press.
You will notice that i have made my sleeves much shorter than is called for in the original pattern.

Wow- your work is so painstakingly neat and careful! I don't expect to need to make this alteration anytime soon, but I'm nonetheless impressed with your fastidious sewing :)
