Step 1 of 5
Materials:
Walls and roof -
3yds 60" or 5yds 45" fabric (medium to heavy weight work best to give the playhouse sturdy walls)
Windows and doorway -
1yd fabric
5yds extra wide double fold bias tape
15"x30" clear plastic
First measure your card table width and height. Most are between 31 and 34 in. wide and about 28 in. tall. Cut your roof one inch larger (34.5x34.5) and your walls 1-2 in. taller for seam allowances.
-
Step 2 of 5
Sew the wall fabric together to make one long strip. Finish one long end of the walls with a hem for the bottom....then pin it to the roof adjusting for slight rounding at the corners. Start pinning at a corner if you want a doorway, middle of a side if you want a Teepee type opening.
-
Step 3 of 5
Mark doorway opening no larger than 18 inches wide and 4-6 inches down from roof, centered. Cut open and finish with bias tape. Cut drapes 14 inches wide and sew with gathers to the inner opening top (sew to side as well for toddlers).
-
Step 4 of 5
do the same for the window as the door.
Center a 12x12 inch square opening on both sides adjacent to the door. Finish with bias tape and 9x12 inch drapes. Use extra fabric 13in. long or bias tape to create the illusion of window panes. Also use scraps to make tie backs for the drapes.
Finish the windows with 15x15 inch upholstery plastic sewn to the inside of the window.
-
Step 5 of 5
slip it over the card table and let them play.
