  I chose to use this beautiful paisley fabric i've had in my stash for almost a year. I made the piping myself using a scrap piece of brown fabric and cord. I used Benedikta's tutorial for this.

  Since i'm pregnant i need to alter the pattern to accommodate my bump. To do this i added the yokes to the top of the skirt pattern pieces, my bump starts under my bust so a yoke is not needed. I then cut the front skirt/yoke pattern piece in half lengthways and extended the pieces outwards to give more room. I also need to extend the front hem because my bump will lift it up. Rather than extend the pattern piece i've decided to lengthen the fabric of the front pattern piece and adjust the hem when it's finished and i can try it on.

  Once you have all your fabric cut out and the edges overlocked you can get started. Pin and sew the shoulder seams of the front pieces to the back pieces. Open seams and press. Pin your piping to the right sides of the neckline of each front piece as shown.

  Using your zipper foot sew as close to the piping as you can. You can see more details in Benedikta's tutorial. Remember to fold the piping outwards at the notch marked on the pattern piece.

  Fold your piping over to the wrong side of the fabric and press in place.

  This is how your piping will look from the right side.

  Open out the piping again and pin the front pieces together. Sew together the small section just under the piping.

  Open out the seam and press.

• 

  Step 9 of 25

  Stitch the front pieces from to twice using large stitches.Pull the threads to gather. Sew the front and back together at the side seams, open out and press.

  Step 10 of 25

  Sew the front skirt pieces together, open out seams and press. Sew the back skirt pieces to the front, open out seams and press. Pin the piping to the right side of the yoke and sew in place the same way as before.

  Step 11 of 25

  Fold the piping to the wrong side and press. This is what it will look like from the right side.

  Step 12 of 25

  Pin the lower dress to the upper dress overlapping the piping onto the upper dress. Match up the seams first then pin the rest distributing the width equally.

  Step 13 of 25

  Sew close to the piping using your zipper foot.

•

  My dress so far. See how i have left the front of the dress long? Once i have the zipper in i will mark the hem and sew it in place.

  Step 15 of 25

  Pin and sew in your invisible zipper using the appropriate machine foot.

• 

  Step 16 of 25

  Sew up the rest of the seam below the zipper and press open.

  Step 17 of 25

  Using a long machine stitch sew between the dots twice and gather the fabric slightly.

  Step 18 of 25

  Pin and sew the sleeve seams. Open out and press.

  Fold over the sleeve cuffs twice and sew in place.

  Gathering evenly pin your sleeves into the armholes and sew in place.

  Due to a swayback i had a gaping problem at the back of the dress around the waist.

  To fix the gaping i took the dress in across the back just above the waist and l also let out the side seams slightly.

•

  I made the alteration to the pattern piece for future garments.

• 

  Step 24 of 25

  Get yourself some little helpers and pin and sew the hem in place. (this step may take some time and patience!)
