We have compiled this gallery of the 20 finalists and it is now up to you all to vote for the winners! Please click on a slide’s project link to read and view more information on each entry. You may vote for multiple finalists but are limited to one vote per finalist. The order of these slides was chosen at random. Note: Don’t vote for this slide.

I wish there was a better way to view these photo galleries! loading each page is too time consuming I’m afraid.

And congrats to the winners. i won the Vintage Modern design contest last year and it was so exciting!

I love all the projects here and congrats to all the contestants. However, I would like to add to the thread as to the “sewing vintage new” in particular. I am so surprised by the lack of originality in some of the work made it to the top list. That’s just my opinion and I hope it isn’t in any way a harsh comment but the only project that has had a really cool twist on vintage is “Mahaila’s” dress. Very original and probably took some precious hours to make it look so outstanding. Perfectly fits the title yet hasn’t received as many votes as others. Of course opinions differ from person to person, that’s mine :) Still. nice job ladies and gents I wish I could sew this good!

But I still insist that only three dresses are the one the fill the requirements of the contest, even though you say not. becuase if you see in the votes those three dresses have the most votes

you should check again the contest rooles and also the basic patterns! watch all the projects and then think!
Feb 24, 2013, 01.40 AMby BurdaStyle Support
Hi emperorny67,
Member misumihaela is correct. The competition and the book are not about vintage sewing techniques, but rather modernizing favorite looks and vintage styles. Our main criteria were 1. Creativity; 2. Craftsmanship; and 3. Presentation (e.g., good photography and styling). You can view more specifics here: http://www.burdastyle.com/blog/enter-the-burdastyle-vintage-modern-sewing-contest
The book does not only include dresses but separates including tops, bottoms, and men’s outerwear and shirts. The contest is not limited to just dresses.

Hello majaleeloo,
My apologies for this scheduling error. The gallery is in fact open for voting for two more days.

Hello everyone,
Thank you all for voting.
When you click the “Vote” button the page will refresh to note the updated count and to display the “You have already voted” text underneath the button. This is displayed after your vote is submitted to remind you that you have already voted for that particular slide.
As the first slide reads: You may vote for multiple finalists but are limited to one vote per finalist… Note: Don’t vote for [the first] slide.
If a slide reads “You have already voted” it means that your vote was accepted and you can no longer vote for that slide.
I hope this helps clarify the voting process.
Best,
BSS

All of the entries are gorgeous! What talent, creativity and skill. Best of luck to each and every one. There is not a bad one in the entire bunch. Very difficult to choose.

I agree that it is a bit frustrating the way that the images are presented. I second the option of having thumbnails for future competitions. I think presenting the images in a random order would also enable a more level playing field – meaning that everyone sees that images in a different order.

It would be nice if contest gallery photos would be displayed similar to the “Projects” page.
Feb 20, 2013, 12.53 PMby SewNotWork
Would you consider showing a thumbnail gallery for other contests? Then one could just click on the thumbnail instead of having to go through all pictures before getting to the very last slide #21 to vote for it. It would save time. Thanks.

Hello SewNotWork,
This is a good suggestion, unfortunately we are unable to redesign our gallery for this contest. If you want to quickly jump to a later slide, click to the second slide and you will notice a page number (…page=2) appears in the URL, simply retype the slide number to which you would like to jump (…page=21).
You can also do this when viewing patterns in the Pattern Store or projects in the Project section.
I hope this helps until we are able to offer a better option.

Yes I voted on the artwork too as the link wasn’t working. I have it working now but can’t change it. Looks like the artwork will win it at 103 votes…..

No worries, josephina. Click through the slideshow and resubmit your vote(s).
Your vote will be cast for the slide from which you click the pink vote button.
If we put a finalist for the first slide, they would have inevitably accumulated the most votes so we inserted a dummy slide. Unfortunately, we are unable to remove the vote button from the first slide. Hopefully this design flaw will be addressed before the next contest.

There are only three dresses that will make to the final, the second, the fifth and the 21 are the one that has all the requirements of a vintage dress
2 Replies
Feb 20, 2013, 06.53 AMby macska
The competition isn’t just for dresses though – there are trouser and top patterns in the book, all of which are as equally valid as dresses to use.
Feb 20, 2013, 02.02 PMby BurdaStyle Support
Macska is correct, this competition is not only for dresses, it is just that the majority of the entries were in fact, dresses. Tops, jackets, trousers etc are all equally valid entries.
The requirement for this contest was not to create a vintage style dress. The book offers 5 base patterns with both vintage and modern elements and encourages the user to create unique variations based off of these patterns.

some finalist are unespected in this list…no project for children! I think you should keep my top photo from project presentation, when we upload project, on top photo, we put as its wrote in this site, most representativ photo of the project! why did you changed this now???? for my project I also used extra women,s sleeves as basic patern, this dont appear here as project based on! it will be a very unespected result as I allready saw from votes, a very subjectiv result! I realy have no wish to winn this contest but I want fair behavior from the organising staff!

We apologize for your disappointment. We felt that the photo selected represented the style details of your project well. There is also a link on each slide for the finalists project page and we encourage all voters to view the full project because this is where the voter will gain the most knowledge about the variations, patterns, etc.
Please email us at Answers@BurdaStyle.com for any feedback, we welcome any and all suggestions for future contests and galleries.

I was sure that this is the answer that I will get, sorry but I realy dont think that that photo is most representativ otherwise I would had put it my self as top photo of the project. My top photo from project represent exactly what make members watch more details of the project. Anyway now, if you cant make this change. I will take care in future what to not invest so much in future contests!

Feb 20, 2013, 01.54 PMby BurdaStyle Support
Hi shazkeav,
This is a gallery design flaw and we apologize for the confusion. Each individual slide has a vote button. When the vote button is clicked it will add your vote to the slide from which you clicked.
Because this is not always clear to voters the first slide inevitably accumulates the most votes. In order to make this as fair as possible we added the artwork or dummy slide to the beginning of the gallery. If you accidentally voted for the artwork you are still able to vote for one or more of the actual finalists, simply scroll through the slide show.
Again, we apologize for this and hope to have the gallery redesigned before the next contest.
Best,
BSS

I might put a few noses out of joint but here goes! I am often gobsmacked as how or why some projects make it and others don’t! I thought there were better entries than what have made the 20 finalists. There were only a few outstanding projects and yes, I am surprised Darkhorse‘s entry didn’t make the short list also. Good luck!

Hi! Congrats to all who those who made the list! I think that my vote went to the artwork on the opening page though- if you look it has 48 votes- you guys have some kind of glitch?!
I would like my vote to count toward the one I feel is best! Thanks!
