Fabric framing a 20" x 14" tapestry so it can be hung
I am trying to figure out how to put fabric around an unfininshed tapestry so that I can then add tabs to hang it. I would like it to have a matted look so it would have two different borders of fabric around it. I would add the tabs to the background (larger) border. Any ideas how to sew this together?
Thanks for helping a newbie. I have been reading through the site but never asked a question. Now I really need help.

Hi Pat, welcome to BurdaStyle. I haven't framed a tapestry, but i'm wondering if it would be similar to putting a border around an applique panel. I once made an applique cushion with a border around it. I cut strips the width I wanted and long enough to extend beyond the edge of my applique panel. I then stitched the strips (right sides together) to the edge of the panel, stopping at the corners. Then I mitred the corners, by sewing the two edges of the strips together (right sides together) on a 45 degree angle. I hope this makes sense, it's hard to explain without pictures.

I just did a google search and I came up with this site (with pictures!) which explains what I was trying to say above. Mitred corners
This site might be more useful for you, because the border is doubled, so it would be ready to hang - just add tabs. Making perfect mitred corners
