Make your own! It's cheap, and entirely custom-fit! There is a how-to here on Burdstyle, but there are also several on threadbanger.com and youtube. Google it. The gist of the process is: put on tight t-shirt, wrap self in duct tape, cut self out, retape form, stuff with something, tape up again, boom. Custom dress form. I hope this helps you! Good luck!

thank you...i did think about that...but i also want to be able to make clothes for other people like my best friend and my sister who are different sizes...so i thought adjustable would be better...but i could make one of each of the three of us and just pull out the girl i need :)

corduroysarcasm; I do believe very much in the dress form and I think you should have a good, sturdy model if you are going to continue developing as a sewer & want to improve. Most fashion designers will have one or two dress forms they base all of their patterns off of, but home sewers may be best off getting the adjustable as you mentioned above. The only issue I have had with them is that they are not as sturdy as a professional form. They tend to tip and, because they are adjustable, they do not have the smoothest surface for draping. But, they make fitting very easy:)

I have had wonderful luck looking on craigslist, want-ads & estate sales listings for dress forms at a discount price. If you were to use a non-adjustable form you could add girth to the form with muslin or padding to drape for your sister or friends.

I have also done the duct tape dress form, and it was helpful & inexpensive but bad for my back! I am better off with the 1950s dress form I have now, it makes things easier as it is on a stand

I have an adjustable form, it's been great for making outfits for friends and family. It would be nice to have one that's just me though
