How do I press french seams?

I posted the question earlier but somehow it disappeared... So my question is: how do I press french seams open. When serging, you're supposed to press the edges open even if you then serge them together but with french seams, I cannot press the egdes open since they are encased in the seam. So what to do?

stoked about flickr up for swap!

Hmm, good question! I would just press them to one side. Don;t press too hard tho cos it's a thicker seam, and if you press too hard you may iron a mark into the main fabric part of the garment.

Ok you would need to press the seam flat together before you trim. I press the seam open first and than i press together and than trim and fold over. It get good result that way and my seams are trained.

Hello, I'm probably repeating the other member but I press the seams open flat first , to make sure its completley flat and even on the correct side Then I trim one seam and fold over, then pin and stitch. Happy sewing!
