Hey everyone....i think it would be fun if everyone would tell us what their source of inspiration comes from (besides the wonderful world of Burda)...it would be good motivation/inspiration for people that are stuck in a rut (such as myself)
<3 H.
One of my main inspirations is my best friend and sewing partner. When I start to tell her about an Idea I have on how to make a garment or project, she jumps in and helps me! She always has ideas to add and ways to do things more iffencently. Together we keep eachother from sewing half of the garment inside-out. lol. Two minds are better than one. Another inspiration is looking at cute clothes I cannot afford. It gives me ideas on how to make stuff! Holidays are also great. I sewed a red and white bubble skirt for Fourth of July!!!
I just checked out the ThreadBanger mini clips on youtube....you were right, there very creative and inspirational...everyone and anyone that is stuck in a rut should def. check it out.

This is a lovely topic, although we are definitely in the wrong category :) Nevermind...
My sources of inspiration are largely a question of "mismatches". I put things together that don't usually go together. I'm not talking about fashion, although that may be also the case, but all aspects of my professional and personal life. This "putting together" of different methods, approaches, ideas, relationships, people, etc. is an endless source of unusual ideas and creativity. If I'm stuck for new ideas (rarely the case), then I'll pick two topics that are far apart, and use the "clash" to generate new insights. Works every time.
I get a lot of inspiration from crafty blogs too, but lately, I've found out about polyvore.com and have been spending HOURS poring over all the stuff. I like looking at the fashion on style.com too
I know my inspiration has to come from my mom and grandmother. Both loved to sew and my mom could make anything she set her eyes on. After the passing of my mom and relocating to TN. I starting my ventures in quilting and sewing and crafting. I get 2am wake up calls in my head on ideas I have to make. I'll buy a pattern and do one as they call for and from there my mind spins out of control and wham instantly I created a whole new item. Check my items I came up with on my creatiions. You'll know what I mean. Have fun with whatever or whom ever inspires you.
My biggest inspiration comes from my pattern making software,i have oodles of garment choices, and made to measure from it.I hope im not doing anything wrong here posting the name of it. Livingsoft.com
If so I appoigize.
BLOGS! There is so much wonderful stuff out there and so many great free patterns and tutorials. Also from wonderful fabric designers and their site and blogs. Three of my favorite: Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner. All three have freebies on their site. If you like dolls and stuffed toys a great blog is WeeWonderfuls.com. She does a beautiful job and has some fun freebies and patterns.
mine comes from just walking around looking at people, what their wearing how its worn etc. alot comes from here and how other people have interpreted the patterns.
Everything around me. What other people wear, what my grandmother used to wear, childhood memories, history books, catwalk fashion, my favorite color, absolutely everything. Whenever I get and idea, no matter how insane it seems (like a skirt with a tulle cathedral length train, for example) I sketch it. If it is an idea that works it will eventually evolve into something doable. I also do a lot of sewing based on need or desire. Say, I want a bright red skirt, I make it. My friend wants a purple jersey dress, I make that. I find making clothes specifically for other people is not only a challenge, but it usually gives me a fresh take on things as well. Ultimately for me though, inspiration comes from anywhere, it is inspiration, after all.
For me: Blogs, fashion magazines, celebrities, designers, project runway, history, art. Another motivation is to have unique pieces and to have the satisfaction of making it myself.

Blogs are a big inspiration to me. I get lost for hours reading what others are making and often spend more time reading than i do sewing!
