This sewalong is all about the jacket. We're either heading into spring or autumn depending on which side of the equator we're on and i think we could all benefit from having a good jacket in our wardrobes.
So rather than use a specific pattern i thought it best to give a choice of any of the jackets here on the site. I'll be posting about my jacket here and on the blog and will be making some step by step how-to's.
Want to take part? Let us know which pattern you intend to use, show us your fabric choice, tell us about any alterations you may like to make and anything else you feel we need to know.
I think this is a great idea, I like the challenge/ opportunity to stretch my creative muscles and try something that I haven't done before. I like the idea of being able to tweak any of the jacket patterns on the site, and would especially like to try my hand at making the Hikaru jacket.
Ok so i'm going to be making the Jorinde jacket. I'll be using an olive tweed wool with a matching olive green lining.
I'm considering altering the pockets and maybe the collar.
I am going to try the Jorinde... I am very new at sewing and this sew along will help a ton. I have a pinstripe fabric and matching lining, they are both thin so I am considering using interfacing, but like I said I don't know much about this stuff. I also want to alter the pockets. Can't wait to get started!
I'm not making a jacket pattern from this site, but I am making an 18th Century jacket for our English Country Dance Group so maybe I'll join in the sew along with that. It's a JP Ryan Pattern. I'm making view A, but removing the cuffs and replacing them with hand embroidered handkerchief linen. The jacket will be a teal color with a reversible stomacher to match my two petticoats: one side yellow, the other side a blue striped. I'm not sure what color ribbon for the ties but I'm leaning toward pink. Here's the pattern picture.
It's not too late for me to jump in, right? I'm going to be making the Eva. I don't have a pic of the fabric, but it's a brown suedecloth with a textured floral embroidery. And I got some cheap corduroy yesterday to use as my "muslin" (wanted a heavier fabric so I could more accurately test the fit) and printed out the pattern, so I'm hoping to get started on that tomorrow!
How is everyone going? Are you making your muslins?
I'm in the process of making mine and finding the instructions a little confusing so i'm going to do it my own way (this could be dangerous!!!).
I hope to have my muslin finished this week, tweaked for size and be ready to cut into my good fabric (gulp!).
Let me know where you are at with yours.
I'm not sure how I'll manage it, I'm leaving home on Friday for some eleven days... but I'll try to do at least something about it, because I'd love to have it done for this autumn.
Hmm...I like the Jorinde jacket. It could go with the Nichola pants for a suit. However, I am still working on Jennifer :) It's hard to make clothes for cool weather when it's still 95 (35) degrees here.
Finished my muslin. Had to alter the sleeve hole and the sleeve as well as lengthen the sleeve, but I always lengthen sleeves with my gorilla arms. Have sewed together the lining in the linen, but fell yesterday and have a huge bruise on my palm, yay for it not being broken! Though it still makes moving my hand quite hard... I'll try to do some work on it today.
Nikki
Is it to late to join in on the sew along. I will be making Jorinde jacket too with a few of my own touches - or at least I am going to try and add some twists. I found the best fabric today - burnt orange cord - I have red hair so I thought that it would look smashing on me.
what's the deadline for the sew along challenge? I can't seem to find any bigger announcement for this challenge like there was for the Anda challenge...
I'm in too! just found the pefect buttons and bought the lining. I'm going to sew (another!) Eva but this time without the collar and shorter sleeves... keep you posted

I'm also (STILL!) working on a jacket not from this site - it's a Burda pattern, though. I posted about it back in March (ugh!) on my blog, here.

Not too late at all! Go for it :)

This isn't a challenge, just a regular sewalong. We'll continue this sewalong until the jackets are finished, so around a month.
