I am very new to sewing my own clothing, but the reason i have wanted to start in the first place was seeing a $200 dress in a boutique that i knew i could sew myself...
It was just a simple silk slip dress, spaghetti straps, and it had pockets that were sewn inside...
sort of like this dress but much more simple and with internal pockets, instead of the square external: Diane von Furstenberg

It reminded me of the Azalea dress here... And there are two How To's on the in-seam pockets, make pattern and sew it.
My first thought was also the Azalea pattern. You could also use the Jane pattern, and extend the length...
