azalea dress - fabric width?? can i use 45" fabric?
the measurement chart and cutting layouts only list 55" fabric. is it possible to use 45" fabric? i have some that i'd love to use with this pattern...
Hi diggityd,
You can usually make it work. Sometimes you have to modify a little bit. You'll need more yardage than indicated for the 55" fabric, and the best way to know if you have enough, since you already have the fabric, is to just lay it out. You'll be stretching things out a bit and moving some of the smaller pieces around, like piece #7. Your main question is going to be about pieces 6 and 3. They are both cut on the fold. If, unfolded, they are wider than 45" then you'll either have to make them narrower and gather them less, or you'll have to open your fabric to a single thickness, cut them each twice adding seam allowances on the center line, and sew a seam up the center. (Be absolutely sure to cut each once with the pattern piece facing up and once with the pattern piece facing down so you end up with a right and a left side piece and not two left sides) So that will take quite a bit more yardage than the 55" yardage requirement. It's challenging to give advice about this kind of thing verbally. Let me know if you need any clarification. Can't wait to see the results.
