while thrifting today in los angeles, i came across a vintage singer 301 machine. it's gorgeous and lonely, and it's at the "out of the closet" resale shop on fairfax near melrose. i've been trying to talk myself into buying it since i saw it this afternoon, but since i have 2 vintage singers i think i should practice abstinence.
it's behind the counter on a high shelf, for $50-- still has its bobbin case too-- only, no power cord. but these babies last forever and you can easily grab a cord on ebay. so, if any los angeles burdite wants to snag it, go soon!
Just get it. It will haunt you if you don't. I have four machines now, and once you get a critical mass of them, people start GIVING them to you as well.
Just buy the dern thing Oona! Do you have any idea how hard I have searched for another vintage singer! Of ANY kind! Not only have you found one, you found it for $50. Buy it. For my sake, if for no other reason. EmilyKate's right, it will haunt you otherwise. Think of it as a rescue operation (you're giving it a loving home), or tell yourself that we brainwashed you into doing it. Whatever, just get it!
oh MAN.... dammit! but we live in about 2 feet of space with 3 cats! (don't ask, we never meant to be crazy cat people). and my 403 does tricks, and my 221 does its glorious straight stitch. do i really need the 301?

You could buy it, then find it a good home. You know, make sure it doesn't end up on the streets...
