Modern sewing patterns--free patterns in pdf

Help me take a look at this site. I just found it today, no time to look very closely. I've heard that this com. was out of business. Are they coming back for giving away free patterns? Most of patterns are not uploaded yet but tons of them are ready to go.

Well, there are some pretty nice patterns here but printing them is beyond my current capabilities. The full size patterns are not pre-tiled like the "print at home" versions at BurdaStyle. You need the full version of Adobe Acrobat (not just Reader...about $450) to tile the patterns before you print. OR you can convert the pdf's to DWG files (that software on line averaged about $180) then you can use a free version of Autodesk Design Review to tile and print the patterns. There may be an obvious, easy solution to this, what seems to be a rather expensive investment to be able to print free patterns. Hopefully someone more savvy than me will post another way to take advantage of these cute patterns.

      Putting plus pattern list together

This company may be better-known to you as Lekala or Leko. Lekala sells patterns individually for download to print at home from http://sewingpatterns.com I took the pattern number for a corset bodice #5359 from the ModernSewing list; went to SewingPatterns; entered corset (or #5359) and scrolled down till I saw the same picture. The last time I checked the cost was about $3.99 for a download, no paper patterns.
Leko sell CDs with sets of patterns, currently for $12.98 except $24,98 for one bridal CD. I have seven of the disk which I paid $9.98 on sale. The regular price is $14.98; the buy three get on free is the $12.98 price; you really have to watch to catch the $9.98 deals. I've used the patterns, all are based on height-bust/chest-waist-hip measurements. The higher CD numbers have better features, but they all deliver what they promise, ie a useable pattern and instruction, however these are scant.
Any more question, I'll try to answer. One caveat. The company has yet to answer one e-mail. You give them money, they promptly send you the disk. A lot less expensive way to make a pattern than purchasing an Adobe Acrobat system for someone on Social Security. Hope this is of some help. Nehmah

I read over the post and forgot to add one thought. If you currently have access to an Acrobat/plotter set-up by all means take them up on the offer. Just remember: there is no such thing as a "Free Lunch". Read all of their fine print.

I downloaded one of the patterns and was able to tile it in Adobe Illustrator. Just open the .pdf in the program, go to print > setup > tile full pages and it'll print out as shown in the thumbnail.

I did a little search and it says you can also tile in picasa, although I'm not sure because I do not use that.

      Thanks for sharing the website!

To the tiling problem - I opened the PDF in Photoshop and saved as JPG. It's a huge file, but this way you can print the JPG from, for example, MS Paint and it will tile automatically (I haven't tried printing it yet, but I looked at the preview; and I know from previous experience that it really tiles automatically). The only problem is you don't get the frames this way. Hopefully it doesn't matter that much.

I don't know whether it works this way in Gimp, too - I hope it should, but when father tried to open a PDF in Gimp today, he got an error message. I suppose it's something that can be fixed easily, though.

      Happy!

I've tried the loading the patterns into gimp and changing them to Jpeg to load in MS Paint. Unfortunately when I try to print them, they just dissapear. I am not sure if this is just a bug or if I have done something wrong.

Yeah to MarmotaB! The Photoshop-to-jpeg-to-MSPaint method worked for me. It looked like the image had disappeared in Photoshop and even in the folder to which I saved the jpeg. But when I opened it in Paint it was back. And yes it did, in fact, automatically tile when I printed it. (40 pages for "blouse 5125" ... ykes!) So thank you, you cleaver girl.

Ah, now I see what's the problem with "disappearing"! The background is transparent when it's in Photoshop, and the lines are very thin, so it looks as if it disappeared, right? I knew this, but didn't realise it was the problem. I'm probably somehow more used to this...

Oh, no. I can still see it on the screen. When I hit print, there is a message that comes up that the print job is loading (and takes a very long time to do so!) Then nothing prints. And I don't have a problem printing anything else.

I found an other option to download the lakala/leko patterns for free:

here are the links for the patterns Patterns for men

      Pattern for women

      Pattern à la pret-a-porter

Than you need a software for printing:

      Printersofware View32

Important: To put the parameter, which are given with the patterns ( horizontal, overlap and vertikal) into this printing software!!!

Than printing and finish---and it works- I testes and its fine.

The patterns are without seam allowances-how far I could translate the site.

Hope it helped a bit ;-)
